Five new D&D-themed Secret drops are coming to Magic: The Gathering

As a seasoned Magic: The Gathering enthusiast with a soft spot for Dungeons & Dragons, I must say that this upcoming Secret Lair release has me positively giddy! With my gaming collection spanning decades and my walls adorned with various tabletop RPG memorabilia, the prospect of adding these new drops to my ever-expanding Magic: The Gathering deck is truly exhilarating.

Upcoming for Magic: The Gathering enthusiasts is a highly anticipated Secret Lair release, set to start on August 27th. During this time, collectors will get the opportunity to acquire five exclusive Secret Lair releases, designed to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Dungeons & Dragons. Each drop will retail for $29.99, and for those seeking a more premium experience, foil editions of each drop will also be available at $39.99 per edition.

  • An Exhibition of Adventure
  • Astarion’s Thirst
  • Karlach’s Rage
  • Death is in the Eyes of the Beholder I
  • Death is in the Eyes of the Beholder II

The complete roster of cards included in the forthcoming Secret Lair releases is yet undisclosed. Yet, there’s been a hint that two popular companions from Baldur’s Gate 3 will join the lineup. Astarion, the somewhat reluctant vampire, and Karlach, the Tiefling who’s quite the charmer, are set to star in their respective sets. Additionally, we can anticipate other drops coming up later this month alongside these characters.

On three separate occasions, Wizards of the Coast has integrated the beloved tabletop role-playing game (RPG), Dungeons & Dragons, into Magic: The Gathering. The first instance was in the 2021 set called “Dungeons & Dragons: Adventures in the Forgotten Realms,” followed by the “Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur’s Gate” set released a year afterward.

The Secret Lair serves as Wizards of the Coast’s special venue for dedicated Magic: The Gathering collectors. It showcases exceptionally rare versions of certain cards, along with collaborations between the company and external artists and intellectual properties. Previously, Secret Lair has partnered with franchises like My Little Pony, Monty Python, Street Fighter, and others to produce unique products.
