Just a year after losing his Triple M show due to controversial and offensive remarks about the Matildas soccer team, Marty Sheargold has surprised many with a new career change.
The former TV host, 54, announced on Tuesday that he’ll be appearing on Nova FM’s The Chrissie Swan Show with his own regular radio segment.
Oh my gosh, you will NOT believe this! He just posted the most amazing photo on Instagram – him with Chrissie and Jack Charles at the Nova studio in Melbourne! And the caption… it basically confirmed everything! I’m losing it right now, it’s real! He’s with Chrissie! I can’t stop looking at the picture, he looks so happy!
He encouraged listeners to check out Marty Sheargold’s appearance on The Chrissie Swan Show, available on all podcast platforms.
The host, known for speaking his mind, will be doing a segment titled ‘The Red Card’ where he talks about the history of radio.
In February 2025, Marty was fired from Triple M after facing criticism for making sexist remarks about the Australian women’s soccer team.
He sparked further outrage with a subsequent claim that endometriosis was fake.
Earlier this month, Sheargold was publicly criticized by host Allison Langdon during an appearance on the television program A Current Affair.
Introducing the segment, Langdon slammed the former radio star over his sexist outburst.
According to Langdon, a single, deeply offensive and sexist joke was the downfall of Marty’s previously successful career.
Marty Sheargold’s harsh criticism of the Australian women’s soccer team was offensive, and I was among those who were upset by it.
In the sit-down Marty told interviewer Steve Marshall that people need to get over it.
When Marshall questioned Marty about the sincerity of his first apology, Marty responded, ‘Yes, I apologize to the players and everyone connected with the Matildas.’
‘But to people that are offended by that on the outside of that group. Come on.’
Marty acknowledged his comments were inappropriate, but he didn’t apologize for saying them. He expressed regret for the negative consequences and the impact the situation had on his partner, Ang, and their two daughters.
I remember being absolutely stunned when I heard what he said on The Marty Sheargold Show last February. It was right after the Matildas lost a tough match against the USA in the SheBelieves Cup – a 2-1 defeat, if I recall correctly – and his comments just came out of nowhere.
Fellow show host Troy Ellis brought up the topic and Marty gave his two cents on the national team.
He described the team’s atmosphere as reminiscent of a group of fifteen-year-old girls, complete with arguments, friendship dramas, complaints about the coach and training, and personal conflicts. He put it bluntly, saying it felt like everyone was complaining about each other.
The conversation then moved to Australia hosting the women’s Asian Cup.
‘Oh God. The Asian Cup,’ Marty said.
‘I’d rather hammer a nail through the head of my p***s than watch that. Got any men’s sport?’
Following the recent issues, Southern Cross Austereo announced they and Marty had agreed to separate professionally.
