Margot Robbie re-creates iconic Kylie Minogue music video from the 2000s – after addressing rumours she would portray the popstar in a biopic

Margot Robbie paid tribute to Kylie Minogue’s iconic early 2000s style in a new Chanel handbag ad released on Monday.

The 35-year-old Hollywood actress celebrated her Australian compatriot, age 57, by recreating a scene from the singer’s famous 2002 music video, “Come Into My World.”

Michel Gondry directed the original music video, featuring several Kylies seemingly walking down the same Parisian street simultaneously.

He’s revisiting the iconic early 2000s video by starring in a new Chanel ad. The ad features multiple versions of himself walking through a soundstage designed to resemble Paris.

Similar to what was done with Kylie’s scenes, the movie uses visual effects to show multiple versions of Margot appearing on screen simultaneously.

This time around, each iteration of the actor from The Wolf of Wall Street is shown with a Chanel 25 handbag, varying in both color and size. The setting has also changed from a laundromat to a bookstore.

Kylie makes a brief appearance in the ad, standing in a window and wearing pink – a nod to her outfit in the original music video – while Margot waves to her.

Margot told Vogue she remembered being amazed by the original video as a child, especially the clever visual effects it used – something the director was well-known for.

She playfully explained that it was how she acted like Kylie in the show without having to sing and potentially disappointing fans.

This moment referenced a previous conversation where Kylie had said she wanted the actress to play her in a movie about her life.

I was really surprised to hear Margot Robbie address those rumors about her potentially playing Kylie Jenner in a movie! She basically shut down the idea back in September 2025, making it clear she doesn’t see herself taking on that role. It was a bit disappointing for those of us who thought she’d be perfect, but she’s definitely set the record straight.

The actress, who grew up on the Gold Coast, was personally chosen by the pop star to play her in a potential biopic.

Kylie recently signed a multi-million dollar contract with Netflix to create a revealing documentary, leading to speculation that the streaming service might eventually produce a feature film about her life and career.

When Margot Robbie heard the rumor during an interview on BBC Radio 2, she seemed genuinely surprised.

Margot was shocked when she found out Kylie had publicly supported her, exclaiming, “You mean she did?! Why didn’t anyone tell me?!” She called it unbelievable news.

While clearly flattered, Margot quickly ruled herself out.

I’m truly honored, but I definitely couldn’t do it. I simply can’t sing like Kylie,” she said. She also mentioned she doesn’t think actors should attempt musical roles unless they can actually sing.

The actress, who was nominated for an Oscar, shared that her initial meeting with Kylie wasn’t glamorous like you might expect – it was actually quite casual and felt more like an Australian encounter.

I heard from Margot that she and Kylie really hit it off after meeting at the Chateau Marmont in LA. Apparently, Kylie’s team contacted Margot first, and they ended up connecting over cocktails. It sounds like the start of a beautiful friendship!

‘I thought it was going to be about work or a charity thing,’ Margot recalled.

She simply said, “We’re both Australian, so let’s spend time together,” and we ended up getting drunk.
