High profile Channel Nine news reporter reveals new career after quitting TV job - and you will never see it coming

As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for unique opportunities, I must say that Carrie Greenbank’s transition from a high-flying TV reporter to a safari retreat host in East Africa is nothing short of inspiring. Her life experience spanning over 16 years in the cutthroat world of television news and her recent partnership with wildlife photographer Dr John Haskew has led them to create an extraordinary venture that combines their shared passion for adventure, wildlife, and storytelling.

Originally working for Channel Nine as a journalist, she’s now swapped her high-earning TV profession for an exotic African safari lifestyle by launching a retreat in East Africa.

For approximately four years, Carrie Greenbank served as the European correspondent for Network Nine. This year, she left the broadcasting company around the time of widespread layoffs.

She’s shared on Instagram that she’s become a ‘photography tour guide’ in Kenya, alongside her partner Dr. John Haskew, at their Mlima Cottage.

Carrie’s partner, a skilled wildlife photographer and documentarian, constructed a property near the Maasai Mara National Reserve, being their work.

Sharing a selfie of the loved-up pair posing in Africa, Carrie wrote: ‘Hi from the Maasai Mara.

‘We look forward to hosting visitors at our private residence, Mlima Cottage.’

For both photographers and nature enthusiasts, it’s possible to rent out one of the three spacious bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms at Mlima Cottage for $250 USD (approximately AUD$384.80) each night.

Or they can hire exclusive use of the entire home for USD$1400 (AUD$2154.89) per night.

On Mlima’s site, it is mentioned that Carrie and her associate collaborate closely with skilled and sought-after Maasai safari guides who are deeply familiar with the Mara region.

These guides offer extended safari journeys lasting a full day, venturing both on established trails and off the main routes, providing ample opportunities to capture stunning wildlife images due to their flexible approach.

TV Tonight reported that Carrie, who had been working in television news for 16 years, stepped away from Nine Network in June of this year following her appointment as their European correspondent in 2021.

Initially, Carrie Greenbank, the identical sibling of investigative journalist Amy Greenbank, embarked on her professional journey at WIN News based in Queensland.

She went on to join Nine’s Gold Coast, Brisbane and Melbourne newsrooms in the following years.

2021 saw me securing a position with Nine’s London Bureau, allowing me to report on significant global events. I had the privilege of covering the passing of the Queen, Prince Philip, the Russian incursion into Ukraine, and the Israel-Hamas conflict.

Carrie’s incredible work in the industry won her a Melbourne Press Club Quill and a Walkley nomination.
