Wiggles star Greg Page reveals the crippling personal issues he was battling while on the road with iconic kids group

As a die-hard Wiggles fan, I’ve always admired Greg Page for his infectious energy and love for music. But after reading about his struggles with loneliness and health issues, I can’t help but feel a deeper appreciation for him. It’s heartbreaking to know that behind the yellow wiggle and the cheerful smile lies a story of isolation and inner turmoil.

Originally known as Yellow Wiggle, Greg Page shared that he experienced deep and debilitating feelings of loneliness while being part of the renowned children’s ensemble.

Greg, age 52, confided in the Herald Sun that before departing the group back in 2006, he found it hard to connect with his fellow band members on a deeper level due to his apprehension about being criticized.

Instead, he made it clear that he didn’t fault his fellow band members, but rather acknowledged a lack of self-confidence as the reason why he hadn’t shared his deep emotions with them.

Greg shared with the publication that he may have unintentionally contributed to his solitary surroundings by neglecting to address his personal problems.

He mentioned that the health issue leading to orthostatic intolerance, which results in feelings of tiredness and unsteadiness, contributed significantly to his sense of solitude.

He mentioned that he hid his emotions, but felt others nearby might have noticed something was troubling him.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d like to share a perspective on this. When life presents challenges or changes that lead to feelings of isolation, it’s crucial to focus on how we respond and adapt. It’s these responses that can potentially set us on a path towards loneliness. In other words, understanding and managing our reactions to such situations is key in maintaining connections with others and warding off feelings of solitude.

Since December 2005, Greg has faced various health challenges, particularly after he underwent a double hernia surgery that same year.

Due to recurring bouts of fainting, slurred speech, exhaustion, and tremors, he had no choice but to pull out from the group’s 2006 US tour.

Following his diagnosis with a non-critical type of dysautonomia, a difficult-to-identify long-term condition, Greg chose to take a break from his cherished musical group.

In doing so he made way for newcomer Sam Moran.

Following his comeback to the Wiggles in 2012, taking over from Sam, Greg experienced a life-threatening heart attack during a joint performance with the band for a special reunion show at Castle Hill RSL in 2020.

An attendant, a youthful nurse not on duty, swiftly retrieved a defibrillator from the RSL and frantically attempted CPR on Page until the arrival of the paramedics.

At that point, Greg recounted to The Weekend Australian three distinct memories: struggling to breathe, finding himself on the ground, and eventually coming to in a hospital.

He glanced up at the ceiling, feeling quite drained, yet not in a negative sense. Instead, he was completely worn out.

Greg went on to express his gratitude to those who helped save his life.

“I’m deeply thankful that those individuals took action to attempt rescuing my life. Without their intervention, I wouldn’t be here today,” he expressed.

In his first interview since the attack on radio station 2GB, Greg said he had no warning signs.

He joyfully continued his journey, really gave it his all dancing at the concert that evening, and came close to exhaustion. That’s how he remembered the event.

Even though he had a heart attack, Greg maintains that he feels ‘more fit’ now than at any other point in his life, and he admitted to being heavier when he parted ways with The Wiggles back in 2013.

He expressed feeling great, with no indications of any issues or discomforts preceding it. As the event approached, he decided to pick up the pace a bit during his morning walk, saying to himself, “Alright, I guess I’ll walk a bit more vigorously this morning and speed things up a bit.”
