Star Wars: Lando boss opens up on shelved series
As a seasoned gamer with a heart for Star Wars lore, I can truly empathize with Justin Simien’s feelings of grief over the cancellation of the Lando series. It’s like losing a beloved character in an epic RPG game – you invest countless hours, emotions, and hopes into seeing their story unfold, only to find that development has come to a sudden halt.
Justin Simien recently expressed his feelings of disillusionment following the sudden cancellation of the Star Wars: Lando series.
In 2018, Donald Glover made his debut as Lando Calrissian in the film “Solo: A Star Wars Story.” It was expected that he would continue playing this role in a Disney+ series. However, it seemed like the show was put on hold last year when its head writer, Simien, mentioned he hadn’t received any news for quite some time.
In an heartfelt conversation with Collider, I (Simien) shared the lingering sorrow that still resonates within me following the abrupt termination of my cherished project.
He clarified that it was quite advanced, boasting a Bible, concept artwork, and scripts, but unfortunately, it didn’t work out as planned. He acknowledged the situation and moved on, explaining that he frequently attends therapy sessions for his personal growth.
As a gamer, I can say this much from my gaming experiences: When you come up against a tough boss or a heart-wrenching storyline, you have to confront it head-on. It’s like the deepest sorrow I’ve ever felt in a game, and though I’ve never lost a child in real life, I imagine that pain might be similar.
“You invest deeply from your heart and spirit into a project, but at the end of the day, its survival isn’t entirely in your hands. Seeing it possibly fail can be a painful experience, much like going through a genuine period of mourning.”
In my own words, I find it essential to acknowledge and experience my emotions directly: ‘I’m going through a period of grief, and I’m not okay right now.’ It’s crucial for me to allow myself to feel these emotions deeply.
In the end, the director discovered a sense of peace, recognizing that the knowledge he’d acquired could be carried forward and utilized in his upcoming work.
He added: “I can’t obviously take the storyline or the IP or the characters, but there’s so much more that I got, as a maker, and that’s mine. Sorry, it’s too late, you can’t take that part back.”
