Get ready for some exciting new rivals! The Supes are teaming up for a guest appearance in season five of the popular Prime Video show, and it sounds like they’re heading straight for a showdown at Vought International.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Eric Kripke, the showrunner, hinted at a reunion between Jensen Ackles’ character, Soldier Boy, and some of his former co-stars. He also revealed when viewers can expect to see this happen in the show’s last season.
Eric Kripke said the characters appear in episode 5, and he loves how awful they are. He thinks it’s fantastic that they’re such unpleasant people – even Soldier Boy isn’t a good guy, but these characters really aren’t morally upright. He found it really fun to watch the actors play such roles.
It’s not surprising to see Eric Kripke, the creator of Supernatural, casting actors from that show in The Boys. He’s been bringing them back gradually throughout the five seasons, with appearances already from Nathan Mitchell, Jim Beaver, Alvina August, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. While fans know Jared Padalecki as the super soldier from Supernatural, the roles for him and Jensen Ackles remain largely a mystery, though trailers have offered a brief glimpse. What’s particularly intriguing is how different these roles are from their Supernatural characters. Instead of playing heroes motivated by a strong sense of right and wrong and brotherly love, they’re entering the dark and violent world of The Boys, where power and corruption are the norm.
Ackles said he was excited about the possibility of working with them again, but he emphasized that the story needed to fit well with the show’s fifth and final season.
I heard there was a chance I could be involved, and I immediately thought it sounded great, as long as it fit the story. I really care about the show – even though I wasn’t in the original cast, I’m a fan and want every moment to be impactful. Eric Kripke found a way to include me in a way that was both surprising and meaningful. It really moves the story and the characters forward.
I just got an early look at the final season of The Boys, and wow, it doesn’t pull any punches. Things have seriously escalated. We’re thrown into a world where Homelander has completely taken control of the U.S. government, and he’s ruling through sheer terror. Hughie, Frenchie (Tomer Capone is fantastic as always), and Mother’s Milk are all imprisoned in these awful places they’re calling ‘Freedom Camps.’ But there’s still a glimmer of hope with Starlight, who’s desperately trying to ignite a rebellion in a country completely under Homelander’s thumb. The new cast members fit right in, and the stakes are incredibly high from the very beginning.
Homelander’s already frightening behavior is only the beginning. He’s now determined to become a true god, seeking immortality and complete control. Just when things seem darkest, Billy Butcher returns, equipped with a virus designed to kill superpowered individuals. He’s prepared to destroy all of his enemies, no matter the cost.
The situation escalates when Homelander resurrects his father, Soldier Boy, which ultimately throws Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles’ characters into the middle of the conflict. According to Ackles, the resulting scene is incredibly chaotic and features a lot of explosive, bloody action.
I was surprised by how some scenes in that sequence turned out – it was a pretty chaotic shoot.
The Boys season 5 premieres April 8 on Prime Video.
