Amanda Abbington admits she fears taking public transport as she feels ‘exposed and vulnerable’ after Strictly bullying allegations

The actress known for playing Sherlock Holmes, who left the BBC dance competition suddenly in October, admitted that she experiences feelings of vulnerability and exposure when using public transportation because of the threatening comments she has received online from Strictly Come Dancing fans.
In an interview on BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour, she shared that in public places like trains, she often feels vulnerable due to the kind of threats she had received.

Ever since my beloved BBC show found itself entangled in a whirlwind of drama, following the suspension of our charismatic star, Giovanni, I’ve been closely following the developments. You see, Amanda, his celebrity partner, has alleged that he displayed abusive behavior towards her, labeling him as ‘cruel and mean.’ However, Giovanni vehemently denies these allegations.
Additionally, she shared with Woman’s Hour that other individuals have reached out to her, expressing how her remarks have inspired them to speak up more confidently within their respective work environments.

Last week, Amanda made her initial comments regarding the allegations during interviews on ITV’s Lorraine and Channel 4 with Krishnan Guru-Murthy.
On an interview with Christine Lampard during Lorraine, she shared her struggles from the start, saying: ‘By the third day of week one, I had already texted the producer expressing my concerns. I wrote something like: “This is terrible, he dislikes me, I can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong. I assure you, I’m giving it my all.” So that was how the first week unfolded for me.’
Asked whether there were further discussions at that stage, she said: ‘Many, many.’
Amanda stated: “It was out of line, it was cruel, it was harsh, and it constituted bullying. I endured it for about five to six weeks.”
The incident began quite promptly, and as it unfolded, I found myself reacting strongly due to the obvious warning signs I recognized.
Thus, it would become inaccessible, making entry challenging, which could ultimately prove to be a self-reinforcing prediction.
Discussing her daily routine during the program, she mentioned that she frequented the rehearsal room each day, having spent 32 years in such spaces.

Following the performance, she switched to a black T-shirt bearing the phrase “Quiet No More” at its back, while taking pictures next to the play’s director, Jez Bond. This choice of clothing might have been symbolic, hinting at the ongoing controversy.
Based on reports from The Mirror, Amanda was given a standing ovation by the audience, which left her in tears.
One attendee shared with the outlet: “Amanda’s acting skills are undeniably remarkable, but tonight was more than just a performance – it felt like a deeply spiritual event.”
