Amanda Abbington admits she fears taking public transport as she feels 'exposed and vulnerable' after Strictly bullying allegations

As someone who has spent decades navigating the complexities of the entertainment industry, I can empathize deeply with Amanda Abbington‘s ordeal. Her courage to speak up against unacceptable behavior is commendable and serves as a beacon for others facing similar situations.

Amanda Abbotion confessed that she now feels apprehensive about using public transportation following the public disclosure of her accusations of bullying against her dance partner, Giovanni Pernice, on “Strictly Come Dancing.”

The actress known for playing Sherlock Holmes, who left the BBC dance competition suddenly in October, admitted that she experiences feelings of vulnerability and exposure when using public transportation because of the threatening comments she has received online from Strictly Come Dancing fans.

In an interview on BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour, she shared that in public places like trains, she often feels vulnerable due to the kind of threats she had received.

It seems as though you’re perceived as a source of discontent for expressing that you aren’t completely satisfied with this.

Ever since my beloved BBC show found itself entangled in a whirlwind of drama, following the suspension of our charismatic star, Giovanni, I’ve been closely following the developments. You see, Amanda, his celebrity partner, has alleged that he displayed abusive behavior towards her, labeling him as ‘cruel and mean.’ However, Giovanni vehemently denies these allegations.

Additionally, she shared with Woman’s Hour that other individuals have reached out to her, expressing how her remarks have inspired them to speak up more confidently within their respective work environments.

In my experience, I have become adept at identifying warning signs and unhealthy behavior. After having encountered such situations myself, I find that they tend to recur with increasing frequency.

Instead, I chose to discuss the issue with the producers, expressing my discomfort by saying something like: “Hey, I feel uneasy. Things are starting to spiral a bit, and I notice it’s becoming a recurring pattern – things start off smoothly, but then they quickly turn into chaos.”

Last week, Amanda made her initial comments regarding the allegations during interviews on ITV’s Lorraine and Channel 4 with Krishnan Guru-Murthy.

On an interview with Christine Lampard during Lorraine, she shared her struggles from the start, saying: ‘By the third day of week one, I had already texted the producer expressing my concerns. I wrote something like: “This is terrible, he dislikes me, I can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong. I assure you, I’m giving it my all.” So that was how the first week unfolded for me.’

Asked whether there were further discussions at that stage, she said: ‘Many, many.’

Amanda stated: “It was out of line, it was cruel, it was harsh, and it constituted bullying. I endured it for about five to six weeks.”

The incident began quite promptly, and as it unfolded, I found myself reacting strongly due to the obvious warning signs I recognized.

Thus, it would become inaccessible, making entry challenging, which could ultimately prove to be a self-reinforcing prediction.

Discussing her daily routine during the program, she mentioned that she frequented the rehearsal room each day, having spent 32 years in such spaces.

I’m absolutely thrilled to pieces, immersed in the heart of a rehearsal space as we gear up for the upcoming production of ‘When it Happens to You’. This captivating play will take center stage at the Park Theatre in the heart of London starting July 31. Simply can’t wait!

As a lifestyle expert, I wholeheartedly affirm that rehearsal rooms stand among the most enchanting, secure sanctuaries. Truly, these spaces embody the essence of what rehearsal rooms should symbolize in our lives.

Regardless of your background or the artistic field you’re in – be it dance, acting, or singing – it is important for you to carry empathy, awareness, tact, and kindness when entering a rehearsal space. This duty of care ensures a positive and productive environment for everyone involved.

‘And that wasn’t extended to me (at Strictly). And so I just said I don’t think this is right.’

On Wednesday evening, Amanda opened in her fresh production titled ‘When It Happens To You’ at the Park Theatre in London.

She apparently cried during her debut acting performance, which was her first since she emotionally stepped away from Strictly.

Following the performance, she switched to a black T-shirt bearing the phrase “Quiet No More” at its back, while taking pictures next to the play’s director, Jez Bond. This choice of clothing might have been symbolic, hinting at the ongoing controversy.

Based on reports from The Mirror, Amanda was given a standing ovation by the audience, which left her in tears.

One attendee shared with the outlet: “Amanda’s acting skills are undeniably remarkable, but tonight was more than just a performance – it felt like a deeply spiritual event.”

As a devoted admirer, witnessing her live performance is nothing short of astounding. Given all the burdens she carries right now and the weight of the past that seems to be bearing down on her, it’s truly remarkable how she manages to maintain her composure in such an emotionally charged play.

In the thriller, it’s Amanda who heads the acting ensemble, assuming the character of Tara. This true tale revolves around a mother striving to maintain her family’s unity in the wake of a life-altering incident that drastically alters the family’s destiny.
