Disney actor Joshua Bassett explains spiritual experience he had taking the hallucinogen Ayahuasca: ‘I look up and I see Jesus in the sky’

According to Joshua Bassett, he perceived an image resembling Jesus Christ in the sky during his Ayahuasca trip.
In a recent interview on the Zach Sang Show, the 23-year-old performer opened up about his past, sharing a deeply personal account of an event that ultimately influenced him to adopt religious beliefs.
Growing up in Oceanside, California, this individual confessed to having faced substantial battles with drug addiction. At some point in his life, he admitted to trying various ways out and found himself entangled in the use of several types of narcotics.
Bassett shared that he enjoyed the sensation of magic mushrooms and often sought such experiences at the beach, aiming to uncover the universe’s secrets. Later on, he delved into more profound plant-based medicines, specifically using Ayahuasca.
On his second encounter with Ayahuasca, the actor reported a profound, life-changing event.
In my personal experience, I find myself compelled to echo the sentiments of Ms. Bassett when she spoke about her profound realization. For a significant period, I too was in denial, unwilling to confront the stark truth that was gradually unfolding before me. However, after much introspection and soul-searching, I have come to accept the label that some may bestow upon me as ‘insane’.
Reflecting on my own journey, I’ve come to a startling realization: deep within us all lies an ugliness that we often try to hide or deny. This realization came to me one day as I looked around a crowded room full of people, and it seemed as if I could see straight through them. The ugliness I saw was not physical, but rather a sense of self-doubt, insecurity, and fear that clouded their expressions and actions. This discovery has been a humbling experience for me because it reminded me that we are all more alike than different. We all carry burdens, scars, and flaws that shape us into the individuals we are today. But it also gives me hope because if we can acknowledge and accept our imperfections, we can begin to heal and grow. Embracing our vulnerabilities allows us to connect with others on a deeper level, and ultimately, to live more authentic lives.
Basset expressed that he “came to understand there is nothing concealed,” since he felt like his spirit was “descending into the depths of a place I don’t hold as real – a place I don’t think exists.”

In his own words, Bassett described feeling enveloped by countless demons upon landing in a place resembling hell. These demons jeered, ridiculed, and inflicted pain on him. As he recalled the traumas from his childhood, their taunts and mockery intensified.
Bassett acknowledged the potential skepticism people might have while listening to his story.
As a lifestyle expert, let me assure you, there’s no question about my presence here and now. I can feel the air around me, see your faces, hear your voices – it’s as tangible as anything else in my life. And while I understand some might say I was hallucinating or experiencing something unusual, I can confidently tell you that what I went through was a genuine, authentic experience.
He went on to say: “It struck me, ‘The devil has been controlling me all this time’ – I could see the devil mocking me, and I started perceiving strange occurrences in my life. Eventually, I stood up, went to the bathroom, and suddenly understood the gravity of what I was going through, realizing that I needed to leave, right away.”
Bassett said he couldn’t drive anywhere, as he was under the influence of a substance.
“Bassett explained that since he was working on the site, he wasn’t allowed to drive away. Yet, he felt determined to escape from the house and dash off as quickly as possible.”
Bassett proceeded to say, ‘I step outside, pick up my keys, and the woman managing the place suddenly grabs my hand, saying, “You can’t depart just yet.” In that moment, I distinctly notice a demonic figure in her eyes, as if she was possessed by the devil.’
As a connoisseur of life’s nuances, allow me to express something that may seem unconventional, yet it’s the honesty I feel compelled to share: “In your gaze, I see an unsettling darkness.” The words escape me, but the emotion is deafening.
He added: ‘Eventually, I go outside … and I look up and I see Jesus in the sky – and I’m like, “No way, there’s no way” – and the first thought I had was, my dad was right.’
Bassett said he experienced a rush of emotions, including confusion, comfort and dread.
Bassett exclaimed, “This moment is utterly bewildering!” She described it as the wildest encounter of her life, leaving her feeling both relieved and petrified by the revelation that there’s more to the spiritual realm than she previously knew.
Initially, I may have refused to acknowledge the existence of evil, instead adhering to the belief that everything is rooted in love. However, I’ve come to realize that evil does indeed exist.
Bassett, alongside notable figures like NFL star Aaron Rodgers, actor Will Smith, and musicians such as Machine Gun Kelly and Miley Cyrus, has openly discussed their personal experiences with Ayahuasca.
