Olympian reveals she is 7 months pregnant after competing

As a spectator of sports and life, I stand in awe of Nada Hafez, this extraordinary woman who defies convention and pushes the boundaries of human resilience. Competing at the Olympics while seven months pregnant is an achievement that transcends fencing or any other sport; it’s a testament to her indomitable spirit and unwavering dedication.

At the 2024 Olympics, a woman named Nada Hafez from Egypt participated in fencing while being seven months pregnant, surprising many.

She announced on Instagram, “Three athletes on the podium!” What may seem like two competitors to you, were actually three: myself, my fellow competitor, and my unborn baby! My pregnancy journey was filled with various challenges, both physically and emotionally. Balancing life and sports during pregnancy was no easy feat, but it was all worth it. I’m proud to have advanced to the round of 16 in this Olympics! I feel fortunate to have the support of my husband @ibrahimihab11 and my family throughout this unique experience. This Olympics was special; not just my third, but this time I’m carrying a tiny Olympian with me!”

In her third appearance at the Olympics, she participated simultaneously in fencing competition and pregnancy baking. She advanced to the top 16 among 64 competitors but was defeated by Jeon Hayoung from Korea with a score of 15-7. Manon Apithy-Brunet of France took home the gold, followed by Sara Balzer in second place, while Olga Kharlan from Ukraine earned bronze.
