Talon Esports’ offlaner W becomes the first 15K MMR player in Dota 2

As a long-time follower and admirer of Dota 2 esports, witnessing the relentless MMR race has always been a thrilling ride. However, the recent milestone achieved by Chung “Ws” Wei Shen, Talon Esports’ offlaner, left me utterly astounded! At merely 19 years old, this young prodigy from Malaysia has shattered the ceiling yet again, becoming the first 15K MMR player in the world.

In a remarkable feat, Talon Esports’ W has made history by being the initial Dota 2 player to attain a 15,000 Matchmaking Rank (MMR), mere two months following the last such milestone being surpassed.

Embarking on another grueling MMR dash, I find myself hot on the heels of a swift newcomer! That’s right; it’s none other than the Malaysian offlaner, Chung “Ws” Wei Shen, who’s currently slaying it for Talon Esports. This prodigious player has just broken through yet another MMR barrier, making history as the world’s first 15K MMR gamer!

19-year-old W truly lives up to his impressive name, as he recently announced a jaw-dropping accomplishment on his Facebook page. He posted a screenshot of his astonishing 15,007 MMR with a succinct caption – “15k”. Talon Esports and numerous Dota 2 enthusiasts congratulated him for reaching this unparalleled feat. Known also by the names Shenorita and Ws`, he continues to make his mark in the gaming world.

In simpler terms, Talon Esports declared their significant accomplishment to both fans and team members, with Team Manager Brameasy delighted to celebrate this new landmark on his birthday. He posted a photo of ‘W’ in front of his computer screen, showcasing the impressive 15K MMR (Match Making Rank) on his account.

SEA takes the MMR lead with W’s 15K MMR achievement

This achievement is massive but it was also pretty unexpected. The MMR race has been centered in Western Europe (WEU) for a while now. Cloud9’s Alimzhan “watson” Islambekov reached the previous milestone to become the first 14K MMR player, just 2 months prior. After the 14K MMR gates opened, other WEU players, including Ammar “ATF” Al-Assaf and Egor “Nightfall” Grigorenko, quickly caught up to the race.

However, W’s recent 15K accomplishment has once again shined the limelight on the Southeast Asian gaming scene. Earlier, Thai gamer Nuengnara “23” Teeramahanon was celebrated as the MMR king, consistently reaching new heights. He became the first to hit 12K and 13K MMR; however, a miscalculation in the ranking system significantly set him back from the competition. Notably, at the time he established those records, he was also playing under Talon Esports!
