The new Peaky Blinders film, The Immortal Man, brought Tommy Shelby back to the screen, but some familiar faces were missing. While the movie explained what happened to Arthur Shelby, it completely ignored Tommy’s brother, Finn, not even mentioning him.
If you haven’t recently watched the original series, you might be a little lost about what happened to Finn. The scene where Tommy visits Ada’s body and says, “All of us dead, except for the one who wants to be dead,” could be particularly confusing.
Did Finn die sometime between the end of Peaky Blinders season six and The Immortal Man? It doesn’t seem that way – we haven’t been given any proof that he did, and the ending of the series suggests he’s still alive.

Man, it was tough watching Finn in series six. He kept messing up and letting Tommy down, and you could really see the family starting to push him away. Honestly, there were times I was wondering where he even was – he’d just pop up for a second in group scenes. It all came to a head when they found out Billy Grade was the one feeding information to the IRA, and Finn’s complete isolation from his brothers became super obvious.
In season five, Finn accidentally revealed Tommy’s plot to kill Oswald Moseley to Billy while intoxicated. Billy then shared this information with the IRA, who intervened and stopped the assassination. Unfortunately, Polly and others were killed in the aftermath as a result.
Finn got another opportunity to prove himself when Duke Shelby and Isiah asked him to kill Billy. They warned him he’d have to cut ties with them completely if he refused, but Finn still messed up. He turned the gun on Duke and Isiah, not knowing Duke had already removed the first two bullets.
What to Read Next
Duke murdered Billy and subsequently banished Finn from the family. Finn’s final words to Duke were a threat of revenge. Whether Finn carried out that threat in the six years before the movie begins isn’t shown, leaving his fate uncertain.
When Tommy said “all of us dead,” he probably wasn’t thinking about Finn, since Finn had already been cut off from the family. Unless Finn unexpectedly shows up in the next season, we may never find out why he disappeared, and Steven Knight would have to explain it officially.

According to Knight, Duke Shelby will return for the next Peaky Blinders series, set in 1953. This raises the possibility he’ll continue to be a central figure. Fans are now wondering if this could pave the way for Finn Shelby to reappear and potentially take over as the leader. Only time will tell what happens.
Similar to the change in actors for Duke – going from Conrad Khan to Barry Keoghan – it’s doubtful Harry Kirton will return as Finn. This isn’t just because the new series is set almost 20 years after the original ended.
In a 2022 interview with Metro, Kirton shared that he was eager to leave his role as he felt continuing it for too long could limit his future career options. He worried that staying with the character into his mid-to-late 20s might make it harder to take on diverse projects later on.
With all respect, I’m ready to move forward and let go of the past this year. Once 2022 is over, I’d like to finish Peaky Blinders with the respect it deserves so I can focus on new projects. I think you understand I don’t want to be limited to one type of role, and that’s just my opinion.
