The Simpsons fans predict return of iconic character after casting clue

As a long-time Simpsons enthusiast who can remember the days of VHS tapes and dial-up internet, I must say that the prospect of Uncle Herb making a comeback has me more excited than Bart on Christmas morning. The man is a legend, a character whose complexities and quirks have endeared him to viewers for decades.

The Simpsons fans are hoping to see an iconic character return to the show for season 36.

At the San Diego Comic-Con event, it was announced that notable figures such as Tom Hanks, John Cena from the upcoming Fast X movie, and talk show host Conan O’Brien will make guest appearances in the premiere episode of the upcoming season.

Could it be that another well-known figure, Danny DeVito, is set to make an appearance? Known for his roles in shows like “Twins 2,” the actor has graced our screens on this particular show multiple times before, specifically in 1991, 1992, and 2013. Each time, he provided the voice for Homer’s estranged half-brother, Herbert “Herb” Powell.

Despite it not being officially confirmed yet, the hints dropped by the guest stars have sparked a buzz among the show’s audience, who are now actively discussing on Reddit about the prospect of Powell making a comeback.

“Is this Uncie Herb coming back?” Benopo2006 penned on the Reddit discussion thread.

1. Dan (SurvivorFanDan) expressed hope saying, “I sure hope that’s true! The most undervalued Simpsons character, without a doubt.” In response, another user agreed, saying simply, “That’d be fantastic.”

Although it remains uncertain whether DeVito will take on his old character again or introduce a fresh one, the producers gave a sneak peek into the plot of the first episode.

The producers have disclosed that the upcoming episode will be called “Bart’s Birthday,” as it focuses on honoring the oldest member of the Simpson family, Bart, on his special day.

Matt Selman, the showrunner and executive producer, described it as quite an extravagant, high-profile premiere, adding that the concept behind it is daringly ambitious.

In 1991, during the second season of The Simpsons, Danny DeVito made his first appearance as Homer’s half-brother in an episode called “Where’s My Brother?”

Abraham (Homer’s father) admitted to having an extra-marital relationship that resulted in the birth of Herb. At that point, Herb was placed for adoption. Years later, Homer crossed paths with Herb, who had risen to become a successful CEO of his own automobile corporation.

Despite initially putting his faith in Homer’s unconventional automobile ideas, Herb finds himself financially ruined by the end of the episode as the venture unfortunately fails to generate profits.

In the third season, Herb reappeared and regained his wealth through an ingenious infant translation gadget. Unfortunately, this prosperity didn’t endure upon DeVito’s return in 2013, leaving Herb penniless once more.

At the moment, new episodes from The Simpsons’ season 35 are being broadcast every Sunday evening on FOX in the United States. Meanwhile, seasons 1 through 34 can be streamed in the UK on Disney+.
