Austin Butler’s Elvis is now available to watch on Prime Video

As a seasoned gamer who’s been through the rollercoaster of life’s movies and series, I must say that Austin Butler’s portrayal of Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann’s eponymous film is nothing short of a cinematic triumph. The way he captured the essence of the King of Rock and Roll was so authentic that it felt like a time machine had whisked me back to the ’50s and ’60s.

Austin Butler’s Elvis has become available for UK viewers to watch on Prime Video.

In the year 2022, Baz Luhrmann’s film had a triumphant debut, garnering both critical acclaim and box office success. Michael Butler was honored with a BAFTA award and received an Oscar nomination for his performance as Elvis Presley.

British Prime Video subscribers now have the opportunity to watch the newly-added film at no extra cost, as of July 30.

The film centers around the ascent of the iconic Rock ‘n’ Roll king, Elvis, featuring Tom Hanks in the role of his manager, Colonel Tom Parker, and Olivia DeJonge depicting his spouse, Priscilla.

Last year, when I won my BAFTA for the role, it was a sweet triumph – but tinged with sadness due to the passing of Lisa Marie Presley earlier in 2023. Her father’s legacy lives on through her, and this victory feels all the more meaningful knowing that she’s no longer with us.

As a gamer speaking out, I can tell you that these past times have been incredibly hard to fathom, and dealing with grief takes its sweet time.

“I’ve always held them close to my heart and in my affections, feeling privileged to be accepted as part of their family. This moment is tinged with both joy and sadness for me.”

After giving it more thought, Butler confessed: “Standing on an international stage, I gazed out, looked down at the jumpsuit I was wearing, and realized there were instances where I got a glimpse of what Elvis might have experienced during his ’68 Special or similar performances. Now, I truly miss that experience.”

“That memory brings me joy, not fear. Every day, it was like experiencing an intense excitement that I still cherish.”

Prior to his selection, Harry Styles was one of the potential candidates for the role of Presley. Director Baz Luhrmann revealed that he chose not to cast Styles because he is already a well-known figure, being an “icon” himself.

Elvis is available to stream now in the UK on Prime Video.
