Fighters react to transgender boxers competing at 2024 Olympics

The controversy surrounding transgender athletes competing in the Olympics is a stark reminder that the line between fiction and fact can often blur, leaving us grappling with complex issues.
2024 Paris Olympics witnessed a stir when footage emerged showing a transgender competitor (previously male, now female) delivering overwhelming victories over her opponents in the women’s boxing category, causing controversy among spectators.
In her Twitter post, Imane Khelif expressed feeling overwhelmed while competing against Brianda Tamara. She stated that the blows inflicted by Tamara were particularly painful, a sensation she had never experienced in her 13-year career as a boxer or during sparring with male opponents. Khelif was grateful for having emerged from the match unscathed and relieved that officials had recognized her gender status issues, allowing her to compete at the Olympics.

On Thursday, Khelif is set to square off against Angela Carini from Italy. Interestingly, both are transgender boxers, and they’re not alone. Lin Yu-Ting from Taiwan is also participating in the women’s category. The news of their competitions, along with the video footage, has sparked protests among several fighters.
Previously crowned UFC champ and presently reigning Bellator champ, Cris “Cyborg” Justino urged authorities to uphold the honor of the sport. In her words, “It’s crucial to preserve the honesty of women’s sports. I wouldn’t compete,” she stated.
We must protect the integrity of women’s sports.

She’s not alone in her sentiment. Boxer Ebanie Bridges also spoke out writing, “These transgenders competing in women’s Boxing AT THE OLYMPICS… male born transgenders, is f*cken sickening. It’s f*cken disgusting that the Olympic committee would let these guys/girls who still look like men compete against women. And these biological men who want to compete in women’s boxing must be saddists or something cos any man knows how much stronger they are than females and it’s also why a man hitting a women is so bad.. the biological difference IS REAL. What the f*ck. Honestly unbelievable and sick.”
It seems that someone on the committee who agreed to this decision lacks experience in boxing or has never been hit with full force by a male of the same weight. I am deeply saddened for the biological women who have tirelessly pursued their careers to reach this point.
