7 good TV shows to watch if you like Presumed Innocent

As someone who has spent countless hours engrossed in legal dramas, I must say that this list is a treasure trove for fans like myself! While I haven’t had the pleasure of watching “Presumed Innocent” yet (my TV was still a black and white box when it graced our screens), I can tell you with confidence that these shows are not to be missed.

Apart from “House of the Dragon,” “The Boys,” and “Bridgerton,” it’s been found that “Presumed Innocent” is among the most watched TV series during the summer season.

In the latest show created by David E. Kelley, Jake Gyllenhaal portrays Rusty Sabich, a lawyer for the Illinois State prosecution, who becomes embroiled in a murder allegation following his romantic partner and colleague, Carolyn Polhemus (Renate Reinsve), who unfortunately passes away under suspicious circumstances.

The final episode of “Presumed Innocent” season 1 aired on July 23, available on Apple TV+ ahead of schedule. It’s clear that fans must be craving more of the show at the moment. Fortunately, there are several other great series similar to it available.

As a seasoned TV enthusiast who has spent countless hours binge-watching various shows, I firmly believe that if you enjoyed “Presumed Innocent,” you will find great satisfaction in exploring seven other captivating series that share similar intrigue and suspense. To kick things off, let’s delve into “Big Little Lies,” another masterpiece by Kelley, which offers a riveting tale of mystery, drama, and the complexities of human relationships.

Big Little Lies

“Big Little Lies” is a television show adapted from Liane Moriarty’s novel of the same title, and it’s yet another production by Kelley.

The show takes place in a wealthy California town and focuses on a group of women whose lives overlap. While it’s challenging to explain without revealing plot points, the series shares a similar atmosphere, mood, and exceptional acting talent as Presumed Innocent.

Nicole Kidman is featured in the series “Big Little Lies,” joined by a stellar cast including Reese Witherspoon, Zoe Kravitz, Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern, Katherine Newton, Adam Scott, Alexander Skarsgaard, Meryl Streep, and others!

Currently, you can find two installments of “Big Little Lies” on MAX. It’s been rumored that a third season is in development. As of now, we’re all anxiously awaiting news about its release date.

The Undoing

As a die-hard fan of Nicole Kidman’s acting prowess, I can hardly contain my excitement at the prospect of another series featuring her talents! Having followed her career since the early days of “Days of Thunder,” it’s truly fascinating to see how she continues to evolve and take on new roles. And when you add in the fact that this series is from the creative mind of Shawn Ryan, it’s a match made in television heaven! I can only imagine the captivating performances we’ll be treated to as a result. Bring on the popcorn!

“The television show ‘The Undoing’ is adapted from the novel ‘You Should Have Known’ written by Jean Hanff Korelitz. It follows the story of married pair, Jonathan and Grace Fraser (portrayed by Hugh Grant and Kidman), who find themselves entangled in a murder investigation after a woman with ties to them meets an untimely death.”

In essence, all three titles – “Presumed Innocent”, “Big Little Lies”, and “The Undoing” – share some common traits. However, I must emphasize that “Presumed Innocent” and “The Undoing” seem to be particularly closely related in their themes and styles.

In addition to Ben Whishaw, the following actors grace our screens in this series: Édgar Ramírez, Noah Jupe, Donald Sutherland, Lily Rabe, Matilda De Angelis, and Ismael Cruz Córdova.

In case you’re curious, there’s just a single season of “The Undoing” available on MAX, consisting of only seven episodes. If you enjoy marathon sessions, this should be an easy one to finish; however, if you’re fond of “Presumed Innocent,” it’s highly recommended that you give it a watch.

The Night Of

As a devoted viewer, I must share that “The Night Of” stands out from my usual list of Kelly productions. Instead, this gripping series was masterfully crafted by the dynamic duo, Richard Price and Steven Zaillian. The narrative revolves around a young man named Naz, portrayed by Riz Ahmed, who finds himself in a precarious situation after a fateful night out with a woman. Circumstantial evidence implicates him in her murder, but he’s fortunate to have the seasoned defense attorney John Stone, played by John Turturro, standing by his side.

Almost ten years have passed since “The Night Of” debuted on HBO in July 2016, but it remains an exceptional series. Both Ahmed and Turturro deliver outstanding performances, and they’re joined by a talented cast including Michael K. Williams, Bill Camp, Payman Maadi, Poorna Jagannathan, and Jeannie Berlin in this gripping show.

In a distinctly separate vein from “Presumed Innocent,” yet sharing remarkable similarities in their plots, “The Night Of” unfolds. Join us as Naz and John Stone strive to establish his innocence.

You can watch all eight episodes of the series on MAX right now.

Sharp Objects

In 2018, I found myself captivated by the gripping premiere of “Sharp Objects” on HBO, an adaptation from Gillian Flynn’s novel of the same name. The series follows me, portrayed brilliantly by Amy Adams, as I reluctantly return to my small-town nestled in secrets after a double murder sends shockwaves through our community. As a journalist covering this chilling story, I hoped to keep my past buried, but it resurfaced with a vengeance, tearing open wounds that I thought had long healed.

The TV show features stars like Chris Messina, Patricia Clarkson, Henry Czerny, Eliza Scanlen, Matt Craven, Madison Davenport, Taylor John Smith, among others.

In terms of atmosphere, “Sharp Objects” and “Presumed Innocent” differ significantly, yet both works offer engaging mysteries that are likely to captivate fans of “Presumed Innocent,” encouraging them to delve into the intricacies of the unfolding crimes.

In case you haven’t seen it yet, the captivating series ‘Sharp Objects’ is available on MAX with a total of eight episodes spread across one season. Enjoy watching!

Mare of Easttown

For enthusiasts of “Presumed Innocent”, we’ve got another HBO series that you might want to check out immediately. Unlike “Presumed Innocent”, “Mare of Easttown” is not as formally reserved, but it offers a lot of drama, a captivating mystery, and an exceptionally talented cast. It’s definitely worth your time.

In 2021, Brad Inglesby’s series debuted on HBO. In this production, Kate Winslet portrays Mare, a detective from Easttown, who is investigating the murder of a local teenager. The story follows Mare as she delves into the case while dealing with her own past involving a missing girl and personal family tragedy.

“The Mare of Easttown is likely the standout series on this lineup, so if you haven’t watched it yet, I highly recommend giving it a try! The show boasts an exceptionally talented ensemble cast, featuring Julianne Nicholson, Evan Peters, Cailee Spaeny, Jean Smart, Angourie Rice, David Denman, Guy Pearce, Sosie Bacon, Neal Huff, John Douglas Thompson, Joe Tippett, and James McArdle.”

Criminal Record

1st on the Apple TV+ list is “Criminal Record,” an excellent choice! This British show originated from the mind of Paul Rutman. Its debut graced our screens on January 10, 2024, and it ran for a total of eight episodes until February. So, you’re not too late to catch up with this series!

The narrative unfolds around two dedicated investigators, pursuing clues to identify a secretive figure who has hinted at a past unsolved homicide. Could an innocent man be imprisoned? Might a culprit remain free on our streets? Tune in to uncover the truth!

Cush Jumbo and Peter Kapaldi star in the series, and they are terrific!

As a devoted admirer, I’d say this new series may not mirror the intricacies of “Presumed Innocent,” but if you’re a fan of that gripping tale, I have no doubt you’ll find this one equally captivating.

The Lincoln Lawyer

Indeed, we couldn’t help but include another series from David E. Kelley in our list! The show, titled The Lincoln Lawyer, is adapted from the book series by Michael Connelly featuring Mickey Haller, a lawyer character. In this series, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo portrays Haller, who conducts much of his legal work from within his car.

Currently, there are two installments of “The Lincoln Lawyer” available on Netflix. The third season is set to arrive on Netflix soon. Excitingly, it seems that even a fourth season of “The Lincoln Lawyer” might be under production, thanks to our partners at Netflix Life!

In addition to Neve Campbell, this series boasts another stellar cast member. It carries a nostalgic vibe reminiscent of classic American dramas rather than “Presumed Innocent,” but the legal and criminal elements it presents are strikingly comparable to those found in “The Lincoln Lawyer.”

That’s the list of good TV shows to watch if you like Presumed Innocent!
