Erica Ash, known for portraying Mary Charles “M-Chuck” Calloway on Starz’s show “Survivor’s Remorse,” shares insights about how humor has impacted her personally.

In her initial week in Japan, she embarked on her journey and secured a singing engagement. Additionally, she tried her hand at modeling and announcing boxing matches. Notably, she managed to get her first film role and earned sufficient income to clear her student loan debt.

In simple terms, a series of events unfolded one after another for Ash, making him think of himself as the fortunate wanderer in his profession, much like Forrest Gump in his movie. He responded with a trusting yes to opportunities that came his way, ultimately reaching this point.

In addition to her diverse professional path, she experimented with stand-up comedy. However, she decided to pursue a different direction when she came to terms with the fact that she is both a stage and screen actress, and stand-up comedy doesn’t suit her talents.

Although the response was generally positive, she didn’t feel good about it personally. The experience seemed too emotionally heavy for her, leaving her feeling uneasy. Performing during a lengthy audition onstage was like taking a dip in very cold water that she wasn’t prepared for.

I found myself drawn to comedic roles after some time. In 2006, I became part of “The Big Gay Sketch Show” team, and in 2008, I joined “Mad TV.” It took a few more years, but in 2013, I managed to make a significant breakthrough as Kendra Brooks in “Scary Movie V,” a horror spoof. Additionally, from 2013 to 2016, I landed the role of Bridgette Hart on “Real Husbands of Hollywood,” which aired on BET.

“During the initial season of that series, everyone seemed eager for me to be a part of it. Yet, I found myself declining the offer and instead focused on navigating my finances independently.” (Said to The Times)

Fortunately, I’m quite skilled when it comes to managing money. This allowed me the luxury of declining offers and waiting for new ones to appear. My representatives often warned that I might miss out if I didn’t take the current opportunities, but I replied, “I don’t want to be tied down or labeled.” When another role, M-Chuck on ‘Survivor’s Remorse,’ came my way, it was a perfect fit.

Ash expressed her goal of having a diverse career. From 2014 to 2017, she starred in the Starz dramedy series “Survivor’s Remorse” as M-Chuck. Additionally, she made appearances on “Shades of Blue,” a procedural featuring Jennifer Lopez, and “Legacies,” the CW’s vampire drama.

She spoke of living each day as if penning a captivating novel, for when advanced in age and perhaps neglected, she would have her own rich experiences to keep herself engaged.

“I prefer making decisions based on what I’d like to learn about myself in the future. To me, it’s all about progress and personal growth.”
