Formula 1 post-race decision alters driver, constructor standings
As a dedicated Formula 1 fan with years of experience following the sport, I was absolutely ecstatic when George Russell took the surprise victory at the Belgian Grand Prix last Sunday. Starting from the third row in sixth place, he managed to outlast his opponents and take the checkered flag first. The race was historic as it had the closest finish in a non-safety car race in eight years, with just 0.6 seconds separating the top three drivers.
1. On Sunday, George Russell of Mercedes began the 44-lap Belgian Grand Prix at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, a 19-turn, 4.352-mile (7.004-kilometer) track, from the third row in sixth position. Remarkably, he clinched victory over his teammate Lewis Hamilton and McLaren’s Oscar Piastri by completing the race on only a single pit stop.
As a gamer racing enthusiast, I’ve got to say, the final gap among the top three racers when the checkered flag dropped was the smallest in a non-safety car race in the past eight years! Talk about a nail-biting finish!
however, Russell swiftly regained his status as a two-time Grand Prix champion, following his seemingly successful pursuit of his third career victory (which would have been his second within a single month).
George Russell disqualified
Because his Mercedes weighed less than required after the race, Russell was banned from the race outcomes and lost the victory and its accompanying 25 points.
1. Hamilton clinched the victory, marking his second for the month and the 105th of his career, further extending his all-time record. (Paraphrased)
Here are the results among the point scorers (top 10) before and after Russell’s disqualification.

And here’s a look at the constructor standings before and after Russell’s disqualification.
Before
I’ve been following Formula One racing for quite some time now, and from what I’ve seen, the competition among the teams is fierce. The numbers you’ve provided represent the points each team has earned so far in the season.
After
1. Red Bull has a score of 408 (zero negative points).
In a significant shift, McLaren managed to earn a point more than Red Bull through Piastri’s three-point finish against Perez’s two. Meanwhile, Verstappen and Norris added two points each to their totals. Notably, Hamilton secured the race win for Mercedes, but their deficit to Red Bull expanded from 120 points to 142 due to Russell’s disqualification.
