1996 saw him soaring in popularity as his debut album “Here to Save You All” was released, a success he continued with “I Told You So” in 2001 and “Poison Pen” in 2006.
Additionally, he has acted in various television series, including Reno 911!, CSI: Miami, and The Young and the Restless, as indicated by his IMDB profile.
On Monday evening, the music community was saddened to learn of the death of Derek Emmanuel Barbosa, a well-known East Coast musician. His peers and fans took to social media to remember him fondly.

Domingo, the producer, shared with AllHipHop that Chino XL is regarded as one of the most gifted wordsmiths in the rap industry and is also known as an iconic artist and cherished friend.
Chino XL was ‘extremely talented since the day we met in the early 90’s,’ Domingo said.
In a recent tweet, Public Enemy’s Chuck D expressed his sentiments, saying, “This is a difficult situation. I respected DJ Polo as a fellow hip-hop deity. CHINO XL was my rhyming partner and artistic companion.”
I’ve had the privilege of crossing paths with a remarkable individual who has left an indelible mark on my artistic journey. This person, whom I fondly refer to as my mentor, has always shown an unwavering belief in my abilities as a graphic designer. He didn’t just offer empty words of encouragement but took concrete actions, nudging me forward when self-doubt crept in.
Chuck D added that Chino XL supported his events, and he supported his music.
Rapper A-F-R-O said: ‘RIP to CHINO XL .. I’m gonna miss you, big bro.’

Joe Budden said, ‘Damn… RIP to the legend Chino XL.’
Musician Crook said, ‘We spoke on the phone the other day and laughed.
For many years, our professional paths have been intertwined, dating back to our freestyle sessions on the Wake Up Show. I’m deeply affected by this loss. Rest in peace, my longtime collaborator and brother, Chino XL.
