Michael Clarke reveals the one reason he believes he was never a beloved sporting figure: 'It's fair to say that I polarised'

As a lifestyle expert and someone who has had the privilege of working with numerous individuals from various walks of life, I find myself deeply moved by the story of Michael Clarke, the former Australian cricket captain. His journey through the world of sports, and beyond, is one that resonates with me on many levels.

Michael Clarke has revealed the reason he believes he is not regarded as a beloved sporting figure.

On “Anyone” podcast on Monday, the ex-Australian test cricket captain openly shared that while playing on the field, he wasn’t entirely accepted or appreciated by the cricket fans.

‘I think it’s fair to say that I polarised,’ said the 43-year-old.

In his own words, Clarke acknowledged distinct differences in his off-field life compared to cricket legends Allan Border, Steve Waugh, and Mark Taylor of Australia.

Based on my observations and experiences, I believe none of those three individuals have body art such as tattoos or piercings like earrings. They also seem to prefer their natural hair color instead of dyeing it. Furthermore, they don’t appear to be the type who crave material possessions, such as a luxury car like a Ferrari, just because they’ve played a few Test matches.

1. I followed my heart in my actions, not conforming to the stereotypes of what a 25-year-old from the western suburbs ‘should’ do, like driving a ute with a cattle dog or drinking VB. Instead, I chose something different – I bought myself a Ferrari.

‘Those decisions that I made that probably people didn’t agree with, fair enough as well.’

From 2011 to 2015, Michael served as the team captain for Australia’s cricket team, leading them during tests and one-day internationals.

1. Apart from that, he held the captaincy position for the Twenty20 International team from 2007 to 2010. Eventually, he chose to end his sports career following the last Test match in the 2015 Ashes tournament.

Michael mentioned during the podcast that he suspects he might have Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), as he hasn’t received a formal diagnosis yet.

‘I have never been checked, I think it is a given,’ he revealed.

‘It is like ADD, it’s a given. Definitely, ask my parents, you don’t need to take me to a doctor.’

Michael takes great pride in being meticulously tidy and orderly. He never lets his fuel level in the car drop too low, and lays out Kelsey Lee’s clothes in advance.

As a lifestyle expert, I understand that some athletes may question whether they’ve experienced depression at some point in their lives. Yet, they haven’t received a formal diagnosis or chosen to take medication. However, they have engaged in counseling with a psychologist for a while.

He continued, “I’ve felt deeply sad, almost to the point of being unable to function. I’ve been devastated and left feeling completely drained, unable to get out of bed for days on end.”

In September 2019, Michael silently parted ways with his former spouse, Kyly, following a seven-year marriage. However, the public was not informed about their separation until four and a half months later. They are proud parents of Kelsey Lee.

After their separation, Michael had a romantic involvement with Pip Edwards, the founder of P.E Nation, which concluded in the year 2021.

The cricketer then moved on with Jade Yarbrough.

2023 saw an unexpected turn in my shared journey with this dynamic duo, as we found ourselves embroiled in a highly publicized disagreement at Noosa Park in January. As a design aficionado, I was taken aback when allegations arose that the cricketer had crossed a line with his ex, Pip, which led to our heated exchange.

According to the Daily Telegraph’s report from June, Clarke is currently in a relationship with Arabella Sherborne, who serves as a leasing agent for Scentre Group, the proprietors of Westfield.

A source close to the matter revealed to the publication that Arabella is quite impressive. They mentioned she’s highly intelligent, successful in her corporate career, and undeniably attractive.
