Saoirse Ronan and 'Mary Queen of Scots' co-star Jack Lowden marry in 'secret' wedding

As a long-time admirer of Saoirse Ronan’s extraordinary talent and captivating performances, I was thrilled to learn about her recent secret wedding to Jack Lowden in Scotland. As a film enthusiast who has followed her career since her breakout role in Atonement, it is heartening to see this remarkable artist finding love and happiness off-screen as well.

Jo March may not have said “I do,” but Saoirse Ronan did.

1. The well-known Irish actor, who played a character shunning marriage in Greta Gerwig’s film version of “Little Women,” has secretly gotten married.

Last weekend in Scotland, Ronan, a four-time Oscar nominee, exchanged vows with Jack Lowden, his “Mary Queen of Scots” co-star, according to the Irish Independent and Scottish civil marriage records. However, representatives for both Ronan and Lowden have yet to confirm this news to The Times.

Ronan, aged 30, and Lowden, 34, held a private wedding ceremony at the Edinburgh Central Registrar’s Office in the company of their dearest friends. Reports suggest that this was an undisclosed event. The couple tied the knot several months following the rumors of their engagement, which surfaced in October 2023.

2018’s historical drama “Mary Queen of Scots,” directed by Josie Rourke, featured a pair of actors: Saoirse Ronan played the leading role, while Jack Lowden portrayed her cousin and second husband, Henry Stewart, Lord Darnley. They acted alongside Margot Robbie who depicted Queen Elizabeth I. The movie was nominated for two Oscars in the categories of makeup and hairstyling, as well as costume design.

Ever since our romantic journey began, my partner and I have preferred to keep our personal life under wraps, except for the occasional glimpse on Lowden’s Instagram account. Just last month, we enjoyed some quality bonding time at the 2024 Glastonbury Festival, a delightful prelude to our upcoming nuptials.

Recently, Lowden, known for working on Apple TV+’s “Slow Horses,” Steve McQueen’s “Small Axe” series, and Christopher Nolan’s “Dunkirk,” teamed up with Saoirse Ronan for the production of “The Outrun.” This drama is an adaptation of journalist Amy Liptrot’s memoir. In this project, Lowden serves as a producer while Ronan stars in the film.
