50,000 Taylor Swift fans gather on a hill to see — and listen to — her sold-out Munich shows

As a dedicated Taylor Swift fan, I am in awe of the unwavering dedication and creativity of her fans, or Swifties, who managed to witness her sold-out Eras Tour performances in Munich despite not having tickets. The scene at Olympic Hill, with its prime view of the stadium below, was a testament to their resilience and passion.

1st Person Perspective (Movie Reviewer): “Sold-out shows are no match for the dedication of Swifties! Even without tickets, they’ve managed to catch Taylor Swift’s much-anticipated Eras Tour in person. Impressive, isn’t it?”

Approximately 50,000 fans without tickets gathered in Munich outside Taylor Swift’s Saturday and Sunday shows to watch her concert from Olympic Hill (also known as Olympiaberg), which offers one of the highest vantage points in the city and a fantastic view of the stadium below.

At large performances in Munich, the hillside seats boast nearly equal desirability as paid concert tickets, and fortunately, they come at no cost.

Fans have regularly gathered at this spot due to its excellent vantage point. In the past, concerts by Metallica and Rammstein drew huge crowds to the hill. Swifties, Taylor Swift’s fans, often hold impromptu gatherings outside stadiums, allowing ticketless fans to share the music experience together.

Swift might have established a new record for the largest female concert audience in Munich, with approximately 74,000 attendees, and that figure doesn’t include those who watched from the hill.

Despite the scorching 88-degree temperature, over 40,000 enthusiasts thronged the grassy expanse on both Saturday and Sunday. Some even arrived several hours prior to secure a prime location, as reported by local authorities who estimated around 25,000 people occupying the hill on Saturday. The 14-time Grammy winner thanked fans inside and outside the stadium Sunday.

The singer of “Shake It Off” expressed her gratitude during the Sunday performance, saying, “It’s a privilege to put on this show for approximately 74,000 beautiful people in the stadium. If the rumors hold true, around 50,000 more lovely people are gathered outside the stadium.” She continued, “We’re grateful for your presence at the Eras Tour, whether you’re inside or outside the stadium.”

In a recent video shared on X (previously known as Twitter), during last weekend’s broadcast, I, Taylor Swift, expressed my gratitude by saying, “We have so many fans gathered in the park outside the stadium. Thousands of you are tuning in from there. Your warm welcome has left us feeling humbled and we plan to put on an unforgettable show for you all night long.”

On November 15, 2023, Swift shattered records and caused some damage to Ticketmaster with her Eras Tour announcement; an astounding 2 million tickets were snapped up that day, making it the highest single-day ticket sales figure for any artist according to the platform. Additionally, her tour generated a record-breaking revenue of $1.04 billion in 2023 and is predicted to achieve the same amount this year.

I’ve had the privilege of traveling the world as a musician for many years now, and I can’t express how excited I am to continue my international tour in the enchanting city of Warsaw, Poland. The energy of the Polish fans is legendary, and I can hardly wait to perform for them on Thursday. Following my shows there, I’ll make my way to Austria and the United Kingdom in mid-August.
