Sex and the City legend Kim Cattrall lands new BBC role

As a long-time fan of both Kim Cattrall’s acting career and historical dramas, I couldn’t be more thrilled to hear that she will be leading the cast of BBC Radio 4’s new audio drama series, “Central Intelligence.” Having grown up listening to radio dramas, I have a deep appreciation for the unique storytelling experience they provide. And with a cast that includes the legendary Kim Cattrall, four-time Oscar nominee Ed Harris, and other talented actors, this series promises to be an unforgettable journey.

Sex and the City star Kim Cattrall has signed up for a new BBC role.

1. The renowned actor takes the helm in the 10-episode BBC Radio 4 and BBC Sounds audio drama series, “Central Intelligence,” which is loosely based on the real events surrounding the creation of the U.S.’s Central Intelligence Agency.

Cattrall’s character, Eloise Page, starts off as a new recruit in the CIA and later climbs her way up to become a powerful and influential figure within the agency.

In the film “Central Intelligence,” Ed Harris, a four-time Oscar nominee known for his role in “Westworld,” portrays the future CIA director Allen Dulles. Johnny Flynn, from “Ripley,” is cast as Dulles’ successor, Richard Helms. Additionally featured are Geoffrey Arend from “Physical” and Rob Benedict known for his work on “Supernatural.”

Eloise will reflect on the pivotal events that formed the CIA’s early history, shaping American foreign policy for many decades, in this upcoming series.

During her journey, Eloise shares with her audience how she defied the established norms in the intelligence industry’s power structure. At that point in time, this elite group was predominantly made up of men from Ivy League universities.

1. “Cattrall expressed delight upon being invited to participate in BBC Radio 4’s ‘Central Intelligence.’ She praised the program as a captivating, factual account of the Central Intelligence Agency, detailing its tumultuous origins and evolution. It’s a human tale, filled with setbacks such as mistakes, missteps, and missed opportunities, but ultimately culminating in global triumphs.”

1. “An exhilarating tale about Russian Roulette. I found myself captivated as I delved into the actual account of how this significant organization flourished and thrived before and throughout the Cold War period.”

Alison Hindell, the drama and fiction commissioning editor at BBC Radio 4, is looking forward to providing Central Intelligence listeners with an enjoyable experience.

“I’m utterly thrilled by the exceptional talent gracing our production, elevating this drama serial’s daring ambition. Audio dramas have a magical ability to whisk us away to various eras and locations, and this ambitious project promises an immersive, behind-the-scenes perspective of some of the most extraordinary events from the last century.”

Central Intelligence will premiere on September 13, 2024, on Radio 4’s Limelight podcast feed.

As a long-time fan of “Sex and the City,” I can hardly contain my excitement for the sequel, “And Just Like That.” Having grown up with Carrie, Miranda, Samantha, and Charlotte, their lives have always felt like an extension of my own as we navigated our twenties and thirties together. Now, in my late thirties myself, I can’t wait to see where these iconic characters are at this new stage of life. It will be a delight to watch them on Max in the US and Sky Comedy and NOW in the UK. Their wit, humor, and fashion sense have been a constant source of inspiration for me, and I’m sure many others, throughout the years. Here’s to more adventures with the fabulous foursome!
