Paul Mescal’s new movie gets an exciting update

As a hardcore movie buff and avid gamer of film news, I couldn’t be more excited about Paul Mescal’s new project, “Hamnet.” The fact that it’s based on Maggie O’Farrell’s best-selling book and being directed by the talented Chloe Zhao is already a winning combination in my books. And let me tell you, the casting of Mescal as William Shakespeare and Jessie Buckley as his wife Agnes is absolutely brilliant. I’ve been following both their careers closely and can’t wait to see them bring these complex characters to life on the big screen.

Paul Mescal’s new film Hamnet is officially in producti0n.

In Wales, the movie version of Maggie O’Farrell’s popular book is currently being filmed on site, as reported by Screen Daily.

In the movie “Wicked Little Letters,” the actor who played the lead role in “Gladiator II” takes on the part of William Shakespeare, while the skilled actress Jessie Buckley brings Agnes Shakespeare to life on screen.

The tale is based on a made-up version of events surrounding the death of the family’s sole child, Hamnet. This tragic occurrence served as the inspiration for one of Shakespeare’s best-known plays: “Hamlet.”

Chloe Zhao, who won an Oscar for “Nomadland,” is overseeing the filming of “Hamnet.” She collaborated on the script with its author, O’Farrell.

Sam Mendes works together with Liza Marshall and Pippa Harris as producers on the film. Amblin Entertainment, led by Steven Spielberg, is likewise engaged in its production.

In the new film, Mescal and Buckley act together again, having last appeared on screen together in “The Lost Daughter” from 2021, directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal.

In November, screens will feature Mescal starring as the main character, Lucius, in the highly anticipated sequel to “Gladiator.” Lucius is the son of Lucilla, played by Connie Nielsen, and is determined to avenge his family against the Roman Empire, particularly General Acacius, portrayed by Pedro Pascal.

As a movie critic with over a decade of experience under my belt, I’m thrilled to share my excitement about some upcoming films from director Alexis Mescal. One project that particularly piques my interest is “The History of Sound,” a captivating gay period drama. Starring the talented Josh O’Connor from “The Crown,” this film promises an immersive and moving exploration of love, identity, and the power of sound.

Meanwhile, Buckley has joined forces once more with Gyllenhaal for the upcoming science fiction horror film “The Bride.” In this production, she assumes the leading role. Her fellow cast members include Christian Bale, Penelope Cruz, Jake Gyllenhaal (Maggie’s younger brother), and her spouse Peter Sarsgaard.

There is currently no release date for Hamnet.
