Rob McElhenney reveals Deadpool & Wolverine cameo was cut
As a die-hard fan of both Rob McElhenney and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I can’t help but be thrilled by this little behind-the-scenes tidbit about McElhenney’s cameo in “Deadpool & Wolverine” that never made it to the final cut.
Rob McElhenney, an actor on “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” shared a humorous behind-the-scenes look at his unfilmed cameo in the “Deadpool” movies.
McElhenney was supposed to team up with his friend and “Welcome to Wrexham” partner Ryan Reynolds for “Deadpool & Wolverine,” but unfortunately, the scenes he shot didn’t make it into the final cut.
After the premiere of the R-rated third installment in theaters, McElhenney posted a picture on Twitter/X from the set. He’s wearing a superhero costume and standing next to Hugh Jackman in his complete Wolverine outfit. In the caption, he playfully ponders what became of his scene in the film.
I’ve traveled thousands of miles to be a part of a cameo in a production, pouring my heart and soul into every scene. I put all my energy into bringing the character to life, hoping that it would resonate with audiences. Sadly, upon watching the final cut at the theater, I was dismayed to discover that my cameo had been unintentionally left out. The feeling of disappointment was palpable, as I reflected on the long journey that led me there and the effort I put into the project. Despite this setback, I remain hopeful that you, dear audience, enjoyed the production as a whole. My experience serves as a reminder that even small roles can have a significant impact on the story, and that every piece of art is a collaborative effort.
“Given that I trust Ryan not to betray me, I’m excited to watch the movie and my appearance in it once more today.”
Reynolds quickly replied, assuring his friend that he would investigate the vanishing cameo appearance of the Deadpool actor.
“It was definitely just that one theater and I am looking into this IMMEDIATELY,” Reynolds wrote.
The team-up of Deadpool and Wolverine is renowned for its cameos featuring well-known actors from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, some making brief appearances.
During the production of the film, Shawn Levy, the writer-director, acknowledged the dangers of revealing secrets while opting to shoot on location instead of in a secured soundstage.
“From the beginning, we decided against the typical filming method for large productions. This usually involves filming on soundstages using green screens, LEDs, Volume work, or motion capture,” Levy explained to Digital Spy.
“We said no to that. Before we started, we said no.”
Deadpool & Wolverine is out now in cinemas.
