Strictly’s Giovanni Pernice ignores show drama to celebrate ‘sold out’ dance classes as BBC prepares to announce findings of misconduct probe
As someone who has followed the Strictly Come Dancing scandal closely, I cannot help but feel deeply saddened by the experiences of Oti Mabuse and her partner, Graziano Di Prima. It is heartbreaking to hear that Oti faced bullying during her time on the show and received countless threats as a result of speaking out. Her bravery in sharing her story should be commended, not met with such horrific responses.
As a passionate dance instructor like Giovanni Pernice, I’ve always believed that focusing on my craft and connecting with my students is the best way to spend my time. On a sunny Sunday, with all the recent Strictly Come Dancing drama taking a backseat in my mind, I was thrilled to see another successful series of sold-out dance classes. The energy and enthusiasm from my students fueled me, reminding me why I love teaching and sharing my passion for dance.
Over the weekend, Laura Whitmore, who appeared on Strictly Come Dancing with Giovanni Pernice in 2016, announced that she had discussed with the BBC allegations of unsuitable conduct by a person involved in the show.
I’ve come across reports suggesting that Laura and Amanda Abbington held a heartfelt conversation with Ranvir Singh earlier this year, both being former Strictly Come Dancing contestants. We compared our experiences working with Giovanni, sharing the emotional ups and downs we went through during our time on the show.
The dancer has consistently refuted all accusations against him. He reportedly handed over a file filled with proof to the investigators at Beeb, and he feels certain that their findings will support his innocence.
I’ve been consistently conducting my fitness classes at Ballando for the last three months, joined by my esteemed colleagues Anton Du Beke and Shirley Ballas from Strictly Come Dancing.
On Sundays, I open my home to enthusiasts for engaging workshops. Four sessions filled with excitement and dance, spanning four hours – now that’s an ideal Sunday for me. I’m grateful for your presence in each class and the joy we share together. #LoveYourWeekendVibes
ITV is reportedly prepared to recruit the dancer once the accusations against him have been investigated and resolved by the BBC. He parted ways with Strictly in April, after serving for nine years, following the announcement of the BBC’s investigation.
As an obsessed fan, I can’t help but feel excited about the rumors circulating that ITV executives recognize Mr. Pernice’s massive appeal to audiences and believe his presence in their shows would significantly boost ratings.
He is anticipated to appear in a show called “I’m A Celebrity” towards the end of the year, airing concurrently with “Strictly.” This role could potentially earn him around £100,000.
As an eager follower, I can tell you that some bosses are excited about the prospect of poaching Mr. Pernice from our competition. They’re not only keen on offering him new opportunities within their organization but also creating shows and documentaries specifically for him. This would effectively make him a valued member of their team.
According to ITV’s insider, as long as Giovanni doesn’t have a history of bullying or inappropriate behavior during Strictly Come Dancing, the top brass are planning to bring him back. They understand the show’s audience is fond of him and believe his presence will attract large viewership.
Picture him as a contestant on I’m A Celebrity, he’d likely emerge as a fan favorite due to his entertaining antics in the jungle.
“Bringing a large following along with him, this individual has the unique ability to engage audiences of various age groups. This is an invaluable asset for any broadcasting platform.”
The Beeb, meanwhile, has axed his adventure show with Strictly judge Anton du Beke.
Mr Pernice has vowed to never go back to Strictly, which celebrated its 20th anniversary this year.
He may even take legal action against the BBC.
A source close to Mr Pernice said: ‘Gio is looking forward to getting his career going again.
‘His Strictly one may have come to an end but that doesn’t mean it’s over for him.
‘There are some very exciting things in the pipeline.
“His popularity is immense, and there’s great demand for him beyond this show. He won’t be returning to Strictly, given the past events.”
According to Giovanni, he has provided sufficient proof to contradict Amanda’s portrayal of him as a “cruel, abusive, and mean” individual.
Mr. Pernice provided investigators with a 28-minute recording of his conversation with Ms. Abbington, which later proved that his team had mischaracterized his role in the interaction as unsupportive.
In the video, she expressed to Mr. Pernice that if she were in his shoes, she would have already thrown me out due to my challenging behavior.
Additionally, she acknowledged her tendency to undermine herself and frequently mentioned how he helped her during the challenges of the show.
During the fall season last year, from August to October, Ms. Abbington referred to herself as a difficult partner while dancing with us.
As an obsessed fan putting together the puzzle pieces, I uncovered from The Mail On Sunday that Mr. Pernice shared extensive WhatsApp exchanges with Ms. Abbington. In these messages, she expressed her deep gratitude for his assistance and professed her fondness for him. Furthermore, she tendered apologies on his behalf.
According to reliable sources, Mr. Pernice anticipates being exonerated from allegations of bullying following a thorough three-month investigation. The BBC intends to disclose the results of their inquiry to all involved parties on Monday. Additionally, the Corporation is believed to prepare a bland statement for public release.
The BBC’s investigation into the matter has proven to be quite challenging for them, especially since Ms Abbington made multiple statements in the past week prior to the conclusion of the inquiry.
Last week, during an interview with Krishnan Guru-Murthy on Channel 4 News, she shared that there was an embarrassing sexual experience involving both parties in the Strictly Come Dancing series.
In addition, she mentioned receiving numerous threats of death and sexual violence daily following her complaint to the BBC about Mr. Pernice’s bullying behavior towards her.
The BBC brought in Mr. Pernice’s past dance partners from the newspaper for an explanation of their individual collaborations with him.
Simultaneously, the Strictly team members were interrogated as well. They all denied observing or being subjected to any inappropriate behavior from Mr. Pernice, who is 33 years old.
At the beginning of the new year, the scandal emerged following Ms. Abbington’s revelation to The Sun that she had developed PTSD after being on Strictly Come Dancing. Additionally, she is said to have requested access to rehearsal recordings in order to share them with her legal team.
In April, the BBC rejected her plea for consideration. They initiated a thorough examination of her allegations that Mr. Pernice had behaved aggressively towards her during their coaching sessions.
I was taken aback when Channel 4 contacted my legal team at Schillings for a right to reply on Mr. Pernice’s behalf, only hours before their scheduled interview on Wednesday. These allegations against him came as a complete surprise to me. I want to make it clear that Mr. Pernice firmly denies these claims.
Beforehand, Ms. Abbington asserted that Mr. Pernice had stepped on her foot, resulting in a bruised toe for her. She has not provided any additional information.
Last Sunday, she spoke to The Sun about Giovanni’s behavior, stating it was uncalled-for, harmful, unfair, and unpleasant. Unwilling to stand by idly, she intervened to protect others from his actions. No additional information was disclosed.
As an obsessed fan, I can’t help but feel deeply concerned about the ongoing situation at the BBC. The repercussions are reportedly severe, and I can’t help but wonder what’s really going on behind the scenes. With Strictly Come Dancing, the beloved show that we all look forward to each year, being dragged through the mud, it’s hard not to feel a pang of sadness. The investigation into the matter took an unconscionable three months, during which time, significant damage was inflicted upon this cherished program – the pride and joy of the BBC.
Critics among the inner circle have retorted that the prolonged duration of the inquiry enabled Strictly’s staff to uncover Graziano Di Prima’s physical abuse towards Zara McDermott. The dancer was dismissed within two days for misconduct by the investigators.
According to reports from the BBC, even though we’re waiting for the results of the investigation on Mr. Pernice due tomorrow, further developments may still unfold.
In her conversation with Mr Guru-Murthy,Ms Abbington expressed her desire to receive compensation for the wages she lost as a result of being on the program and the allegations of bullying she endured.
Additionally, Mr. Pernice may take steps in response, as he’s displeased with the partnership between himself and Ms. Abbington, without their having conducted any psychological evaluations on her prior to teaming up.
Yesterday, a representative for Ms. Abbington stated: “The new information doesn’t change anything: Amanda has consistently expressed that she put in great effort to make things succeed.”
“She was honest with Giovanni about her weaknesses as a dancer and acknowledged that it might have been challenging for him to accept.”
It’s just as unacceptable to use those remarks as an explanation for Amanda being bullied, as the bullying itself.
