Starfleet Academy adds three Discovery cast members and a Voyager cast member

As an avid Star Trek fan with over two decades of experience under my belt, I’m thrilled to hear that Starfleet Academy is expanding its cast with some familiar faces from Discovery and Voyager. Although Mary Wiseman’s appearance as Lt. Tilly was anticipated, the addition of Tig Notaro as a regular and Oded Fehr as a semi-regular comes as a delightful surprise.

In intriguing developments, Starfleet Academy has announced its fresh faces for the upcoming series, with some names causing more excitement than others. Mary Wiseman, known for her role as Lt. Sylvia Tilly, was previously anticipated. However, the addition of Tig Notaro as Commander Reno and Oded Fehr as Admiral Vance from Discovery comes as a delightful surprise. While Wiseman and Fehr will make guest appearances, Notaro will be a permanent cast member. Additionally, Robert Picardo, recognized for his work on Star Trek: Voyager, is set to join the series as well, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Fans have wondered if Wiseman, who plays Lt. Tilly in Discovery’s fourth season, will join Starfleet Academy as an instructor. However, we hadn’t considered the three other actors for this role. With the Academy being situated close to Federation Headquarters, it seems logical that Admiral Vance would make frequent visits.

Introducing Notaro to the team, ideally as an instructor, will undoubtedly inject more humor into the show. Her quick wit and sassy comebacks against Commander Rapp (Anthony Rapp) were a delight in Discovery. The addition of Picardo is unexpected yet exciting. However, his regular appearance on Academy raises questions about his potential involvement in Star Trek: Prodigy should it be renewed for a third season. It’s unclear if there would be scheduling conflicts or if the EMH could exist in the 32nd century without alterations. I assume the producers have already thought of solutions to these challenges.

Regardless of the situation, it’s thrilling to learn that three actors from Discovery and one from Voyager will join the cast of this fresh series. Their presence will make the shift to a new show smoother and attract even more viewers.
