Viz Media’s SDCC 2024 panel announces Ultraman and Spider-Man team up
As a long-time fan of both Ultraman and Spider-Man, I couldn’t be more excited about the upcoming crossover comic, “Ultraman: Along Came a Spider.” These two iconic characters have always held a special place in my heart, each with their unique powers and compelling stories.
At San Diego Comic-Con, Viz Media revealed that Tsuburaya Productions’ Ultraman and Marvel Comics’ Spider-Man are joining forces for a new crossover titled “Ultraman: Along Came a Spider“. Although Ultraman has collaborated with Marvel characters previously, this marks the first instance where Spider-Man and Ultraman will work together.
Shinji Oishi and Shigenobu Matsumoto are responsible for the storyline and script of this comic, while Tomo Hirokawa provides the artwork. Starting August 14th, the comic will be available in both Japanese and English versions simultaneously at comic shops and through the Viz Manga digital service.
The official plot description is below:
In the Marvel Universe, Spider-Man teams up with the Avengers against Doctor Doom in a fight taking place in New York City. However, when civilians unfortunately die due to a building collapsing during the battle, Spider-Man becomes disheartened and gets abducted by an unusual spacecraft named the Interdimensional Train. Doctor Doom also ends up on this train. They arrive in the Tokyo of the Ultraman dimension! Watching Ultraman confront a massive monster called Kaiju, Doctor Doom is enticed by Ultraman’s power of light and decides to ally with Alien Mefilas and his horde of Kaijus from the Monster Graveyard to seize it.
As a longtime fan of both Ultraman and Marvel, I couldn’t be more excited for the upcoming crossover events! It’s not every day that two of my favorite universes collide, and I’m especially looking forward to the Ultraman x Avengers series. With Kyle Higgins and Mat Groom at the helm as writers, and Francesco Manna bringing the art to life, I have high hopes for an epic storyline that seamlessly blends the worlds of these iconic characters.
