As a passionate fan of international content and someone with Latin American roots, I can’t contain my excitement for Apple TV+’s latest offering, “Women in Blue” or “Las Azules.” Created by Fernando Rovzar, this Spanish-language crime drama is not only captivating but also historically significant.
Apple TV+ has had a successful run this year with engrossing series enhanced by exceptional acting. Coming next is the crime drama “Women in Blue” or “Las Azules” in Spanish. So, what’s it about and why is it worth your time? Find out below!
I’ve expressed this before and I’ll say it again, there’s just something special about productions from international creators. And as a Latina, I’m particularly thrilled about this new series. It was developed by Fernando Rovzar, who might be recognized for his direction of “Hotel Cocaine” and the TV show “A Good Divorce.” For those unfamiliar with Rovzar’s work, now is an ideal moment to explore it further through the true crime drama “Women in Blue” (also known as “Las Azules”). The upcoming production boasts a completely Hispanic cast and crew.
To address the primary query bringing you here: Absolutely, “Women in Blue” on Apple TV+ draws inspiration from real-life events surrounding Mexico’s pioneering female police force.

In the early 1970s, this tale unfolds around four trailblazing women who made history by joining the first all-female police unit in Mexico. At that time, such a career choice was unheard of for women, making these ladies pioneers, role models, and groundbreakers – to name just a few titles they earned. However, it’s important to note that this police force was initially established as a publicity stunt to divert attention. This factual aspect adds an intriguing layer to the narrative.
Although the TV show portrays the police creating a female police unit as a distraction from a serial killer they couldn’t catch, in reality, this event didn’t occur. Instead, the tenacious women on the force seized the opportunity and took it upon themselves to solve the case, relentlessly pursuing the serial killer until justice was served.

Four actresses, including Barbara Mori, Amorita Rasgado, Ximena Sarinana, and Natalia Tellez, make up the “Women in Blue” cast. The first two episodes of this series will be released on Apple TV+ on July 31, with a new episode premiering every week thereafter, leading up to the finale on September 25.
