There are just two more episodes remaining in the second season of “House of the Dragon”. In this coming Sunday’s episode, Daemon takes care of business in the Riverlands, Alicent enjoys a dip, and Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen gathers dragonriders to support her cause.
To start, let’s focus on Rhaenyra. In the last episode, she took off from Dragonstone following news that someone had taken Seasmoke, her late husband Laenor Velaryon’s dragon, without her consent. The question remains: is this person an ally or a threat? To clarify, Rhaenyra aims to discover this crucial information as depicted in the evocative scenes that follow.
“I brace myself as Rhaenyra approaches, shouting, ‘You stand before a dragon of House Targaryen!’ She demands, ‘What is your desire?'”
In George R.R. Martin’s novel “Fire & Blood,” it’s revealed that Addam, who appears to be an insignificant peasant, is actually the bastard son of Corlys Velaryon. This hidden heritage could explain how Addam managed to ride Seasmoke initially, as its previous rider was Addam’s half-brother Laenor. Despite this connection, Rhaenyra sees Addam as a potential adversary. However, as time passes, Addam becomes part of Rhaenyra’s dragon-riding squadron. Although the concept that commoners can tame dragons shocks Rhaenyra, let’s hold off on exploring the implications of this further.
Sad sad sad in the Riverlands
As a fan, I’d put it this way: I’d like to catch up with Alicent Hightower. She’s not in her usual spot at the Red Keep these days. Instead, she’s wandering through the forest or standing in the middle of a lake, which is an unusual sight for someone as powerful and influential as her. The Red Keep is typically where she’d be, given that we’re in the midst of a war. But with the unexpected turn of events, like Aemond dismissing her from the Small Council, who knows where her loyalty lies now? Perhaps she’s made the decision to leave and fend for herself. The Red Keep may no longer offer her the safety it once did.
Alicent is sad so very sad extremely sad:
She has dedicating my entire life to serving my family and the kingdom, I declare. Yet, I feel as if none of it holds significance anymore.
As a gamer, I’ve found myself approaching Harrenhal Castle recently, where Daemon Targaryen has been putting in a great deal of effort to rally forces. However, despite his best attempts, success seems to elude him at the moment. House Tully members have made their appearance there.
In the recent installment, Daemon became aware that Lord Paramount of the Riverlands, Grover Tully, had passed away. Consequently, Oscar, depicted below, now holds significant power in the Riverlands as the grandson of the deceased. This influential figure could potentially rally the Riverlords to support Daemon if he chooses to do so.
As someone who has witnessed countless power struggles and political maneuvers in my time, I cannot help but be displeased by Daemon’s involvement in the war crimes against House Bracken. It is a sad and all-too-familiar tale of those in power using brutal methods to maintain their dominance. Oscar, with his noble lineage and refined demeanor, expresses this sentiment eloquently when he remarks, “It does seem to me you’ve made rather a mess here.”
Based on my experience as an avid reader of intriguing narratives, I have come across various instances where a character appearing with a crown in a picture could potentially indicate the commencement of a dream sequence. However, it is essential to remember that this interpretation is not always the case. The context of the story and the author’s intent play significant roles in determining the significance of such an image. Therefore, I find myself pondering over Daemon’s picture with great intrigue, wondering if this could be another dream sequence unfolding, but also considering alternative possibilities. Only time will tell!
In simpler terms, Lord Grover arrives with a group of Riverlords, likely the same ones who scolded Daemon for colluding with the Blackwoods during “Regent.” They convene in the Harrenhal godswood for a meeting to strategize about the current predicament.
“According to one Riverlord, the traditional approach demands justice.” This implies that Daemon might attempt to win favor from the Riverlords by punishing Willem Blackwood for the war crimes they both were involved in. Perhaps this event will bring a resolution to a wearying subplot.
At Riverrun’s table, Daemon makes a final stand. He pushes himself up and seizes his sword, ready for what comes next. Please, let this be the moment for action, gods grant.
War in the Reach!
Next, we proceed to the Small Council chamber situated in the Red Keep of King’s Landing. In attendance are Aemond Targaryen, acting as regent for his convalescing brother King Aegon, along with Larys Strong, Jasper Wylde, and Grand Maester Mellos.
In the southwestern region of Westeros, known as the Reach, there are ongoing discussions about the latest happenings. It seems that factions have formed, with some supporting Rhaenyra and others backing Aegon. This has led to violent clashes between these houses.
As a seasoned courtier who has witnessed the intricacies of power struggles and political maneuvers for decades, I cannot help but be impressed by the growing strength of House Hightower. The recent news that Prince Daeron’s young dragon, Tesserion, is now mature enough for him to ride is nothing short of a game-changer in this volatile landscape.
It seems this situation should please Aemond, yet his expression tells otherwise. Perhaps he views Daeron as an additional dragon-riding brother who may challenge his authority.
As a gamer, I’ve delved deep into the lore of this fantasy world, and I’ve come across some intriguing tidbits about Daeron. In “Fire & Blood,” you see, he plays a pivotal role in helping the Greens emerge victorious in a significant battle in the Reach. Sadly, it seems we won’t witness that epic encounter unfold on our screens. However, given all the buzz surrounding him, I’m confident we’ll get to meet Daeron in person when season 3 rolls around.
Following, there’s a scene showing Aemond galloping swiftly through a gate. His destination remains uncertain, but he appears to be in a great hurry to reach it.
He eventually gallops out of the city and into the open countryside. Where’s he going, we wonder?
The Sowing of the Seeds
At Dragonstone, Rhaenyra and her confidante Mysaria, the whisperer, along with Ser Lorent Marbrand, her Queensguard knight, are positioned on a balcony. It is uncertain what captures their attention. Their posture bears some resemblance to spectators at a play, but it’s unlikely that is the case.
In the novel “Fire & Blood,” Rhaenyra invites peasants to Dragonstone with the hope that they can tame and own a dragon. However, this comes at the expense of time for traditional plays. Her son Jacaerys is displeased by this situation. Essentially, Rhaenyra’s actions question the unique identity of House Targaryen if anyone can claim its dragon heritage.
Rhaenyra and Jace, members of the Valyrian royalty, take offense at the notion that commoners can ride dragons, an ability previously restricted to the noble Valyrians. However, with Rhaenyra’s war at stake, she extends an offer in the novel: lands and titles are promised to those who can successfully mount and ride a dragon for her. In these scenes, it appears that a large group of fair-haired individuals is assembling on the shoreline, likely preparing to sail to Dragonstone and attempt their chance at becoming dragonriders.
Jace gives face:
People who can ride dragons often have Valyrian ancestry in their lineage, not necessarily making them nobles by birth. Even bastard offspring of Targaryen aristocrats are eligible. Behold, the dragonseed arrivals at Dragonstone. I ponder, how many will depart alive? It’s no simple task to lay claim to a dragon.
Last week on the show, Rhaenyra exchanged a passionate kiss with Mysaria. It’s uncertain how the storyline will progress from there, but rest assured, Mysaria is featured in this upcoming episode.
In the series, Addam is the first character identified as a dragonseed to ride a dragon, an impressive feat. Previously, we’ve encountered his elder brother Alyn, who dons what appears to be Velaryon-style attire. Recall that Corlys Velaryon appointed Alyn as his right-hand man last episode. This new role seems to include a fine wardrobe upgrade.

We additionally touch base with Rhaena Targaryen, Rhaenyra’s step-daughter, who has been residing in the Vale for the past few episodes. Initially intended to travel with Rhaenyra’s younger children to Essos for their safety during warfare, Rhaena stumbled upon proof of a rogue dragon inhabiting the region. It is likely that she will choose to probe deeper into this matter instead of departing Westeros alongside her half-siblings.
In the finale, we are treated to a glimpse of Aemond Targaryen on his colossal dragon, Vhagar, who holds the title of the largest dragon currently in existence. It’s unclear whether Aemond is actually riding her or if he’s utilizing both a horse and a dragon for transportation in the same episode – quite the luxury when it comes to travel.
