Disney Confirms 1 Encanto Sister Has Birthed a Child

Disney has expanded its popular Descendants universe with a new character! The Descendants franchise, known for its teenage takes on classic fairy tale heroes and villains, just added a member of the Madrigal family from Encanto. It’s been revealed that one of the Madrigal sisters had a child, bringing a new generation of magic into the Descendants story.

Alexandro Byrd will appear in Descendants: Wicked Wonderland as Luis Madrigal, a new character connected to the magical family seen in Encanto.

The new movie will show that Luis is the son of Luisa Madrigal, the incredibly popular and strong character from Disney’s 2021 film, voiced by Jessica Darrow. Luisa quickly became a fan favorite thanks to her amazing strength.

This year, a new Descendants movie will be released. It’s the fifth film in the series and continues the story from Descendants: The Rise of Red.

This also establishes Luis as Mirabel’s nephew, and Stephanie Beatriz, who voiced Mirabel, has expressed interest in reprising her role if there’s a sequel. The introduction of Luis highlights how popular both Encanto and the character of Luisa have become.

Compared to the newer characters introduced by the Madrigal family, the main characters in Wicked Wonderland come from classic Disney fairy tales. Kylie Cantrall and Malia Baker return as Red, the Queen of Hearts’ daughter from Alice in Wonderland, and Chloe Charming, the daughter of Cinderella and Prince Charming, respectively.

Okay, so it looks like Disney is really moving forward with expanding the Descendants world! They’re planning a new trilogy for Disney+ that will focus on the kids of Tiana and Flynn Rider, which is super exciting. But here’s the really cool part: apparently, they’re aiming to bring in characters connected to even more Disney favorites – think The Little Mermaid, Frozen, Mulan, and even Encanto! Will Encanto 2 Happen Soon?

Although Encanto was incredibly popular, Disney hasn’t announced a sequel yet. However, they clearly believe the Madrigal family still has a lot of potential. Evidence of this can be seen in the new *Encantothemed area coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World.

Sources say discussions are underway about a possible sequel. John Leguizamo, the voice of Bruno, recently told PEOPLE that the creators are exploring new story ideas.

Because Disney animated movies usually take a long time to make, a sequel to Encanto is still likely a few years away. However, it wouldn’t be surprising to hear an announcement about it soon, and the D23 convention in 2026 would be a great opportunity to share news about the future of the film.

Disney Animation currently has a full schedule of movies planned for theaters, which is likely why a sequel to Encanto hasn’t been officially announced yet. Instead, the studio decided to release Moana 2 in 2024, followed by Zootopia 2 in 2025, which became a huge success worldwide.

The studio’s next original film is called Hexed, and they’ll follow that up with the next Frozen movie, Frozen 3, in 2027. They’re already working on Frozen 4 as well, which shows they like to plan projects well into the future. This makes fans hopeful that an Encanto sequel might be announced eventually, though it’s likely still a ways off.
