Last month, the official trailer was released for The Girl in the Pool. In this trailer, Freddie comes across Monica Potter, who is 52 years old and his former co-star from the 2001 film Head Over Heels, once more.
In a modern twist, Sarah Michelle Gellar, aged 48, portrays the role of Thomas, a prosperous husband to Kristen (Potter), yet covertly involved in a romantic entanglement with a younger woman.
On Thomas’ birthday, his girlfriend comes to his house for a visit. However, events take a tragic turn when she is found dead by the pool. Terrified, Thomas conceals her body in a trunk hidden in the backyard – just as his wife announces a surprise birthday party in the same area.
In simpler terms, the trailer shows Thomas frantically trying to conceal a corpse from his house visitors.
The trailer opens with Thomas’ lover unexpectedly visiting him at home, and they passionately kiss by the poolside while she takes off her clothes to just her undergarments.
However, events take a tragic turn when his mistress is discovered lying lifelessly on the floor, her face marked with blood streaks and the room filled with pooled blood.
It remains unclear how the woman died, but Thomas decides to hide her body.
A distressed man is observed as he stows her limp form into a storage container hidden in his yard, uttering, “I care for you deeply, but I have familial obligations.”
Soon after the occurrence, his wife gathers a group of loved ones in the backyard as a surprise for him.
Although his family is supporting him, Thomas feels uneasy and longs for the celebrations to wrap up. He queries his spouse, “How many more hours until we’re done?”
‘Why are you asking me that?’ Kristen asks.
In the bathroom, Thomas tries to compose himself, reassuringly speaking to his reflection, “Breathe deeply, all will be fine.”
But his father-in-law, already suspicious of Thomas, overhears the conversation.
As I walked out of the bathroom, my father-in-law questioned me, “Were you speaking to yourself just now or was there someone else in there with you?”
Another partygoer notices Thomas acting uneasily throughout the evening and comments, “You’ve been glancing over your shoulder a lot tonight as if someone was following you.”
An unexpected guest also arrives to the party – the man married to Thomas’ mistress.
Based on my personal experience as a concerned spouse, I can only imagine the anxiety and worry that comes with losing track of your loved one. In this situation, the husband’s revelation that his wife was last seen at Thomas’ residence through her Uber account must have added an unwelcome layer of confusion and unease to the mix. The husband’s concern for his wife’s safety and wellbeing is palpable in his words. It’s a reminder of how technology, while convenient, can also bring unexpected complications to our lives. I hope that this turn of events leads to a resolution that brings peace and clarity to all parties involved.
