This unfortunate incident experienced by Sarah Abo, a well-known Australian journalist, serves as a reminder of this crucial aspect of cultural sensitivity.
On Thursday, while reporting on the 2024 Paris Olympics for her job in France, Sarah Abo made a mistake in her outfit choice.
At Paris, while filming for her Channel Nine breakfast program as a co-host at age 38 for Today, a guest disclosed they had violated a major rule.
In a plain white T-shirt and black denim pants, the speaker adorned herself with a gray scarf around her neck and concealed her dark hair under a cream-colored beret.
When I encountered Australian expat and podcast host Oliver Gee in France, he casually mentioned that only tourists and elderly gentlemen in rural areas don wore berets.
Sarah began the segment by saying, “I’ve put on my beret and carry my baguettes with me. I’m ready to discover if I can truly embrace the Parisian lifestyle.”
But Oliver told her: ‘Love the baguettes, love the bonjour, not so sure about the beret.’
‘What do you mean? Don’t all French people wear berets?’ Sarah said.
“Only tourists and elderly men inhabit the rural areas, and I strongly believe we should eliminate this issue before moving forward,” Oliver expressed.
The journalist looked displeased as she removed her hat, commenting that she had originally quite liked its appearance.
Sarah flew to France for the Paris Olympics in style last Friday.
She was spotted checking into her first class flight at Sydney Airport.
The international multi-sport event will run from 26 July to 11 August.
Sarah appeared excited and joyful as she moved towards check-in at the airport, noticing Allison Langdon, the popular host of A Current Affair, doing the same for their shared flight.
