Apex U-turn means Battle Pass can still be bought with coins in Season 22

Apex U-turn means Battle Pass can still be bought with coins in Season 22

As a long-time Apex Legends player, I’ve seen my fair share of changes to the game over the years. But none have sparked as much controversy and frustration as the proposed Battle Pass changes for Season 22. It felt like Respawn was taking away something that had been a fundamental part of the game for many players: the ability to earn Battle Passes with Apex Coins.

The rest of the Battle Pass changes will remain.

Apex has reversed their decision on the significant Battle Pass modifications planned for Season 22. Previously, they intended to eliminate the option to purchase it directly using Apex Coins and instead require real money. Additionally, a new system with two Battle Passes per season was proposed, one for each half-season.

Prior to the recent change, players had the option to gather sufficient Apex Coins by finishing the previous Battle Pass to unlock the following season’s Pass at no cost. However, this feature was eliminated in the new proposal, resulting in a strong reaction from the entire Apex Legends community. Social media platforms have been filled with disapproval, and there has been an influx of negative reviews for the game on Steam.

Apex has revealed an adjustment to their initial plans for the revamped Battle Pass, while the other modifications continue as intended. Rest assured, you’ll still have the opportunity to purchase upcoming Battle Passes using Apex Coins.

Apex announced the news in a statement posted on X, formerly Twitter. They said:

Based on your feedback, starting with Season 22, you’ll be able to purchase the Premium Battle Pass once again for 950 Apex Coins. We acknowledge that we could have managed the Battle Pass modifications more effectively – we apologize for any inconvenience caused.

Our goal is to enhance the worth and enjoyment of our Battle Pass products, starting from Season 22 Split 2 on September 17th. For a succinct overview of the revised Battle Pass offerings, kindly refer to the infographic provided. Let us share some key points with you:

  • With the launch of Season 22 on August 5th through Split 1, we want to give you an opportunity to get the Premium Battle Pass. You can unlock it by completing a series of simple in-game challenges.
  • Starting with Split 2 on September 17th, you can get the Premium Battle Passes the same way as before: by using 950 Apex Coins. You’ll be able to earn enough Apex Coins via the Battle Pass to get future passes.
  • The Battle Pass options now include better rewards—and with the re-tuned Battle Pass challenges, it’ll be faster to complete at only 60 levels.

Going forward, we understand the importance of clear and prompt communication with you. Your concerns – cheating issues, game stability, and quality-of-life enhancements – are our top priorities. We acknowledge that we can do better, and we’re addressing these matters head-on. In the upcoming Season 22, several improvements and bug fixes for game stability will be implemented. Further details will be shared in the Patch Notes to be released on August 5th.

I’m deeply grateful for the enthusiasm and dedication you bring to Apex Legends each day. Your contributions are essential to keeping the game thriving for all of us fans. Thank you once more for your unwavering commitment.

-Apex Legends Team on X, July 24.

Cheating issue acknowledged

Significantly, the declaration acknowledges the widespread concerns among players regarding cheating and game crashes in Apex Legends’ top tier ranked mode. Once more, cheating emerges as a major problem in this competitive arena. Players voiced their displeasure about the game’s overall condition using the proposed modifications to the Apex Battle Pass as an outlet for their frustration.

In the upcoming Season 22, several enhancements and issues related to game instability will be addressed through fixes. This is intended to resolve the problem.

The number of players reaching the peak in Apex has been gradually decreasing for approximately three months. Respawn and EA are likely to believe that sharing this open announcement could help restore public opinion before details about Season 22 emerge within the upcoming fortnight.

Battle Pass will still reward 1300 coins

After making a U-turn, the Apex team has given a revised explanation of the Battle Pass. The remaining adjustments will be implemented. This includes the introduction of a new Ultimate+ Tier, which requires real money. In contrast, the Ultimate tier now offers small extra perks over the Premium Tier, while the cost for the Premium Tier is set at 950 Apex coins once again.
