Matthew Macfadyen didn’t think he was “dishy enough” for Pride & Prejudice
As a huge fan of Matthew Macfadyen‘s acting career, I’ve always been intrigued by his unique journey in Hollywood. His confession about feeling “miscast” in the iconic role of Mr. Darcy in Pride and Prejudice is both endearing and relatable for any artist who has ever doubted themselves.
Matthew Macfadyen has admitted he originally felt “a bit miscast” in Pride and Prejudice.
In the 2005 movie version of Jane Austen’s classic novel, Matt Smith from “Succession” became well-known for portraying Mr. Darcy opposite Keira Knightley’s Elizabeth Bennet.
As the audience adored the actor’s representation of the legendary character, Macfadyen admitted to harboring concerns about whether he was truly suited for the role.
Reflecting on the beloved film, Macfadyen explained why he didn’t always enjoy making it.
I shared my feelings with CBS Mornings, expressing my regret. There were instances when I truly enjoyed myself, yet I can’t help but feel that I could have savored the experience more. If only my worries hadn’t weighed me down as heavily.
“I felt a bit miscast, like, ‘I’m not dishy enough’. But it worked out,” he said.
As a huge fan looking back, even though Macfadyen had his reservations, the film managed to snag an impressive four Oscar nods. And believe me, it’s been nearly twenty years since then, but Macfadyen is still frequently identified as none other than Mr. Darcy.
Actor remarks, “It’s quite an ego boost when people ask if I’m Mr. Darcy now. Twenty years have passed, so I can’t help but think I’m not aging as rapidly as they believe.”
Macfadyen’s latest role sees him join the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Deadpool & Wolverine.
In the new action film, an enigmatic character named Paradox, portrayed by the actor, joins forces with Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, and Emma Corrin.
It was entertaining to see Ryan and Hugh Jackman work together on the film set, Macfadyen expressed with excitement. I must admit, I have a strong admiration for those two men. They truly are impressive.
Deadpool & Wolverine is scheduled to be released in cinemas on July 26.
