Madonna, 67, shows off done-up complexion and plump pout as she reunites with biopic star Julia Garner in Venice for The Studio filming

Madonna and Julia Garner, who will play her in an upcoming movie about her life, were seen taking a glamorous gondola ride in Italy.

The two actors are currently filming the second season of the AppleTV+ show, The Studio, in Rome. On Saturday, they were photographed together while on a shoot aboard the city’s famous gondolas.

I was so excited to see the photos from the shoot! While it’s not totally confirmed if it was for The Studio, it definitely looked like she was getting ready for a big moment. She looked incredible – full glam with makeup, and that signature red lipstick on her beautiful lips. She’s still the Queen of Pop, and always camera-ready!

She had blonde hair parted in the middle, with soft curls framing her face and cascading down to her chest.

The stars coordinated in black and white horizontally striped shirts and black coats.

Wearing jeans, they were filmed on location along the famous Grand Canal with a film crew nearby.

Garner, age 32, sometimes wore a hat with a wide brim decorated with red ribbon and trim, and at other times held it in her lap.

During the photoshoot, Madonna wore fingerless light blue gloves and kept a black handbag on her lap.

This new role in the latest Studio film marks her comeback to acting after a 20-year break.

Her most recent significant acting work was providing a voice in the 2006 animated film Arthur and the Invisibles, directed by French filmmaker Luc Besson.

She previously won a Golden Globe for starring in the 1995 movie musical Evita.

According to her IMDb profile, the most recent time she appeared as an actor in a live-action role was in a 2003 episode of the popular sitcom, Will & Grace.

Seth Rogen created and stars in the new show, The Studio, playing a stressed-out studio executive. The cast also features Ike Barinholtz, Chase Sui Wonders, and Kathryn Hahn.

Catherine O’Hara, a beloved comedic actress, sadly passed away in January at the age of 71 after fighting rectal cancer. She was a standout performer in the series.

Madonna hinted at her involvement in a new project last week by sharing a photo on Instagram Stories. The picture showed her reading a script while riding in a gondola.

It was captioned: ‘The Italian Job.’

She became famous in both movies and music during the 1980s, notably appearing with Rosanna Arquette in the comedy film Desperately Seeking Susan.

In a recent interview with The Guardian, Arquette remembered that the singer, originally from Michigan, became internationally famous ‘right as’ they were filming in 1985.

She admitted it was a really challenging and stressful time, but she managed it well. She wasn’t famous internationally at that point, but she achieved that level of stardom during the process.

Arquette remembered that while she was successful, he was truly struck by her presence when he saw her on the cover of Rolling Stone while they were on set. He thought to himself, ‘Wow!’

Garner will soon be playing the Queen of Pop herself in a long-awaited biopic about the star.

She announced last September that the movie about her life is still in development, despite some earlier setbacks.

‘I can’t say too much about it, but yes, it’s a work in progress,’ she told W Magazine at the time.

Madonna has been persistent in her years-long effort to make a movie about her life.

In 2023, she began working on a biographical film titled ‘Who’s That Girl,’ a reference to her popular 1987 movie and song with the same name.

The movie originally started as a project with Diablo Cody co-writing the script, which at the time was called Little Sparrow.

However, the hitmaker pivoted her focus to zero in on her international Celebration tour.

In 2024, she collaborated with Erin Cressida Wilson to write the majority of the screenplay and had Jennifer Garner in mind for the lead role. Later that year, she publicly expressed her frustration on social media with the challenges she faced in getting the film made.

After facing days of difficulty in Los Angeles, and hearing producers and agents explain why my film wouldn’t work, I came to the realization that I’ll constantly be facing obstacles in life.

The famous performer mentioned she’d spent four years developing her work, but many people told her to simplify it and make it less ambitious.

The caption went on to say that things weren’t easy for them, but they were trying to stay positive. It pushed them to be creative and find unconventional solutions, as their life hadn’t been typical, and they couldn’t achieve their goal through ordinary means.
