The Acolyte boss has heard "nothing" about a second season, despite many plots left unresolved

As a long-time gamer and avid Star Wars fan, I have to admit that I was both excited and apprehensive about the release of The Acolyte on Disney+. The hype surrounding this new Star Wars series had me hopeful for another engaging addition to the franchise, but the relentless criticism it received after its debut left me feeling a bit hesitant.

The first installment of “The Acolyte” came to an end a few days ago, but despite some improvement in the finale (in my opinion), the criticism against the show from “Star Wars” fans has been harsh. The series has drawn significant fire for valid reasons such as slow pacing, inconsistency with the “Star Wars” universe, and unclear character motivations. However, some criticisms have been unwarranted due to the presence of Black women in the cast. Given this reception, it remains uncertain if Disney will greenlight a second season.

Perhaps, The Acolyte continues to generate significant online chatter, based on Collider’s report. Though this doesn’t equate to concrete ratings data, buzz signifies interest and conversation. It’s plausible that some of the discourse revolves around criticisms of the show, but overall, it reflects a level of engagement.

Leslye Headland, the showrunner of “The Acolyte,” has not received any news from Disney about a potential second season. She’s using this pause as an opportunity to unwind. As she shared with Entertainment Weekly, “My brain has been working non-stop – Star Wars, Star Wars, Star Wars, Acolyte, Acolyte, Acolyte. It feels strange to no longer have to continuously solve problems and focus on it.” She added, “My brain is still in overdrive. It’s like if you’ve been running, you can’t simply stop or switch off.”

The Acolyte showrunner has plans for Yoda and Darth Plagueis (if she gets a second season)

In the season finale of the first part, many storylines were left unresolved, indicating that the creators planned for additional episodes. Osha escaped with Qimir and is expected to train under his tutelage in the dark side of the Force. Mae, Osha’s sister, had her memories wiped by Qimir before returning to Coruscant where she consulted with Jedi leader Vernestra Rwoh. It appears that Vernestra has a past connection with Qimir that remains unexplored.

As I approached the final boss battle, I couldn’t believe my eyes. there, standing among the ruins, was none other than Yoda! And if that wasn’t enough to shock me, a sinister figure emerged from the shadows – Darth Plagueis, a legendary character from Star Wars lore who made his on-screen debut in The Acolyte. I couldn’t help but feel a chill run down my spine as these iconic characters entered the scene.

As a dedicated gamer, I can’t help but appreciate the strategic addition of Yoda in the storyline. Introducing Plagueis without a formidable counterpart on the light side would have tipped the balance, leaving us with an unrealistic and lopsided narrative. Since I’m aware of who Plagueis is and where the Sith lineage is heading, it was crucial to introduce Yoda as someone who could match his weight in gravitas. It all just seemed like a natural progression to me.

It’s intriguing how she describes Yoda and Darth Plaguies as two halves of the same coin. Yoda is widely recognized, yet I ponder if many people truly know who Darth Plagueis is. I consider myself a fan of Star Wars, having watched all the mainline films, Rogue One, and several Disney+ series. The name of Darth Plagueis is somewhat familiar to me, but I didn’t instantly recognize him in The Acolyte. To me, he simply appeared as a creepy figure lurking in the bushes.

Perhaps I’ll grow to understand, appreciate, and be wary of him if “The Acolyte” season 2 is produced. For now, you can watch all eight episodes on Disney+.
