ZETA | double: “TEKKEN 8 is very fun and fulfilling every day”
As a long-time TEKKEN fan and avid gamer, I was thrilled to witness double‘s impressive victory at The MIXUP 2024. His journey through the tournament was nothing short of spectacular as he managed to defeat formidable opponents like Danielmado, Bilal, and JeonDDing. Double’s success not only brought him a qualifying spot at the TEKKEN 8 EWC 2024 but also a significant amount of TWT points.
I had the pleasure of listening to an interview with a brilliant TEKKEN player from Japan. He shared his exhilarating win at The MIXUP tournament, the specific character he favors in the game, and his ambitious objectives for the current competitive season.
Due to the global esports circuit led by the TEKKEN World Tour (TWT) and Esports World Cup (EWC), elite players continually jet-set around the world, transforming each competition into an exhilarating esports spectacle. Among these tournaments was the MIXUP 2024, where some of the world’s best TEKKEN players gathered to compete – including double. Double’s path to victory at this event saw him triumph over formidable opponents like Danielmado, Bilal, and JeonDDing. This achievement granted double a qualifying position for the TWT 2024 TEKKEN 8 EWC and an impressive points tally.
After the event, we reached out to double and asked a few questions.
At esports.gg, we’d like to extend our heartfelt congratulations for your triumphant win at The MIXUP 2024! How thrilled are you with your performance throughout the competition?
Based on my personal experience and reflection, I must admit that the first day of the tournament didn’t meet my expectations at all. I felt off my game and was disappointed with my performance. However, today, during the second day, something shifted. I found my rhythm, focused better, and gave it my all. The result? My best performance yet! It just goes to show that sometimes, a rough start doesn’t determine the outcome of the journey. Keep pushing forward and believe in yourself, for improvement and growth are always possible.
Marshall Law and Shaheen
“Law is seldom a contender in major TEKKEN 8 eSports tournaments. What is it about this character that appeals to you? Could it be the reason why many prefer to stay away from him?”
As a longtime TEKKEN fan who’s been with the game since its early days, I can understand why he’s considered a classic and beloved character despite his advanced age.
Based on my gaming experiences, I’ve observed that Law seems to underperform on the tournament circuit. His short reach is a significant handicap – it forces me to get uncomfortably close to opponents and increases the risk of taking damage. Moreover, his vulnerability to homing attacks and lackluster mobility are glaring weaknesses that opponents can easily exploit. In comparison, other characters’ floating techniques leave Law’s in the dust. Having played against various characters extensively, I’ve come to this conclusion.
Based on my personal experience as a seasoned gamer and competitive player, I can empathize with the struggle of not being able to win against a particular character like Shaheen in one round. It’s a frustrating feeling that can leave you feeling stuck and unsure of how to improve. However, it’s essential to remember that mastering a game takes time and dedication.
Based on my extensive experience in competitive gaming, I strongly believe that advancing in tournaments and ultimately winning requires a versatile repertoire of characters. While it’s commendable to dedicate time and effort to mastering a single character like Law, I fear that this approach may limit one’s progress in the long run. From my own journey in gaming, I have observed that players who expand their horizons and learn multiple characters often have an edge over those who rely solely on one. Therefore, I encourage everyone, including myself, to broaden our skill sets and adapt to various situations on the tournament scene.
How difficult was it when JeonDDing switched to Reina? Were you prepared for such a scenario?
“”” could be: “I found myself pressed for time as I had yet to meet Reina from JeonDDing. Her unconventional ways initially posed a challenge, so I focused on studying my opponent’s attack patterns instead, biding my time until an opportunity to counter.”
TEKKEN 8
Do you like the new TEKKEN 8 characters? Who would you like to add to the game?
“I’m really pleased with the new TEKKEN 8 characters. If Rowe is included, I’ll definitely play it. Simply put, I’m looking forward to it.”
What is a better game for you, TEKKEN 7 or TEKKEN 8?
“TEKKEN 8 is a blast! I find joy in it each day. The second part of TEKKEN 7 felt lackluster following Leroy’s release, making it hard to stay engaged after 2020.”
What are your goals for this competitive season?
“This year, I believe I have a good shot at becoming the world’s top-ranked player. Should I fail to achieve this goal in 20XX, I fear I may never get another opportunity like this, so I am determined to give it my all and win the coveted title of world number one.”
Do you practice other fighting games seriously? Why do you like TEKKEN?
I’ve had the privilege of being part of the vibrant Tekken community for quite some time now. Through my friendships within this circle, I’ve developed a deep connection to TEKKEN. My social circle is largely composed of individuals who share my passion for this game, and we often gather to play and challenge each other. These experiences have made TEKKEN a significant part of my life, shaping not only my hobbies but also providing opportunities for friendship and camaraderie.
