Skyesports Championship 2024 postpone matches after disastrous tech issues

As a seasoned gamer and CS:2 esports enthusiast who has attended numerous tournaments around the world, I have seen my fair share of logistical challenges. However, nothing quite compares to the chaotic first day of the Skyesports Championship 2024 in Mumbai. The constant tech issues that plagued this event were truly disheartening and left a bitter taste in my mouth.

Eternal Fire’s XANTARES called it the “worst tournament” of his life.

The organizers of Skyesports, who are running the CS2 tournament, named Skyesports Championship 2024 with a prize pool of $300,000 in Mumbai, India, called off the initial day due to numerous technical problems on July 23.

Today’s Indian tournament has faced heavy criticism due to persistent technical problems experienced by various competitors. Out of all the scheduled matches, only one game between MongolZ and True Rippers was completed. This lengthy encounter lasted almost three hours, largely attributable to numerous technical interruptions.

During the initial round of Skyesports Championship 2024, held at a hotel, several matches were disrupted due to recurring internet and power outages. Consequently, Eternal Fire and Revenant were forced to halt their best-of-one series, which consisted of seven rounds, because of these technical difficulties.

Based on what Stepan Sivornov, Aurora’s head coach, shared, Skyesports is considering either continuing the event at the hotel or transferring it to a Local Area Network (LAN) center.

Players bash Skyesports Championship 2024 after tumultuous first day

Several CS2 attendees, including multiple players, have voiced their concerns about the poor hotel infrastructure at the event. Among them, the Turkish CS2 star İsmailcan “XANTARES” Dörtkardeş was particularly scathing in his criticism, labeling it as the “least impressive tournament” he had ever participated in.

XANTARES expressed his disappointment on X, stating, “I’ve never encountered a tournament as poorly organized as this one. The computers were subpar, with rough table surfaces to add insult to injury. To top it off, the electricity and internet kept going out – it’s a shameful display.”

Indian gamer Hrishikesh “Crazy_Gamer” Shenoy of True Rippers shared an unusual call made by a tournament official during their encounter versus The MongolZ.

In the eleventh round with a score of 11-5, both teams experienced interruptions as they were disconnected from the server due to internet troubles, as Crazy_Gamer expressed on X. Subsequently, when the internet was reestablished, the admins declared that the game would be restarted at the previous score of 11-6 since True Rippers had dropped out first. The rules seemed quite unfair!!

Additionally, players encountered more than just technical problems. In a clip shared by CS:2 content creator Ozzny, the unstable condition of some tables was evident. The table in the video appeared worn out and dirty, falling short of even the minimal requirements for lesser tournament events.

Skyesports speak out

The organizer regrettably announced that unexpected technical difficulties have forced them to move the matches, originally scheduled for X, to Day 2 (July 24). Their team is working tirelessly to fix these problems and promises an exciting Counter-Strike 2 esports experience on that day. They apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and will share the revised schedule as soon as possible.
