House of the Dragon star breaks down unscripted Rhaenyra kiss

As a huge fan of “House of the Dragon,” I was absolutely thrilled to learn about the unscripted kiss between Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) and Mysaria (Sonoya Mizuno) in the latest episode. The raw emotion and intimacy that was portrayed between the two characters was truly captivating.

House of the Dragon spoilers follow.

In the most recent episode of “House of the Dragon,” acting talent Sonoya Mizuno from the cast disclosed an unexpected on-screen kiss without prior scripting.

Last weekend’s “Smallfolk” episode saw Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) and Mysaria (Mizuno) share a deep, heartfelt kiss. This unexpected moment came after Mysaria (in a moment of vulnerability) revealed aspects of her past to Rhaenyra.

In an open conversation with TheWrap, Mizuno shared that the scene’s kiss wasn’t planned initially. Originally, the script called for only their breaths to be close, but the unexpected happened instead.

D’Arcy and showrunner Ryan Condal had numerous discussions prior to filming about the show’s plot. However, it was ultimately D’Arcy who shaped the final on-screen outcomes.

In the room, they were apart from each other… Mizuno recounted, and during this tale, shared by Mysaria, D’Arcy felt an urge to console her. The next step seemed natural to him – a kiss.

As a gamer, I wouldn’t want the scene between the two characters to come across as overtly “gay-themed” or “stereotypically queer.” But the way they hugged each other before the kiss made the moment feel incredibly emotional and “just right” for me.

Mizuno pointed out that Mysaria was deeply cherished by her mother during her childhood. He further mentioned, “I believe it’s been a very long time, if not never, since they last received such heartfelt embraces.”

Based on my own experiences and observations, I believe that moments of deep connection between two people can be truly breathtaking. It’s those small yet significant gestures, like a heartfelt hug, that have the power to transform into something more profound. The vulnerability and intimacy shared in that moment can blossom into a passionate and unforgettable kiss. These experiences are thrilling and exhilarating for all involved, leaving a lasting impact on their lives.

In more recent developments, the most recent installment of the series brought about an unforeseen appearance of Viserys in Daemon’s dreams, acted once again by Paddy Considine in his recurring part as the deceased monarch.

In response to being there, the actor expressed his joy about returning to “House of the Dragon” on HBO for a single episode: “I was only there for a short time, but I can’t express enough how delighted I was to reconnect with my former colleagues.”

The second season of “House of the Dragon” is broadcast on Mondays in the UK, on both Sky Atlantic and NOW. In contrast, in the US, new episodes become available on Sundays via HBO, with streaming options on Max.
