Cryptmaster is a weird little word game

As a dedicated gamer and word enthusiast, I have been utterly captivated by Cryptmaster. This game is not just about typing fast or even accurately; it’s a brilliantly crafted word game that immerses you in an intriguing world where words hold the power to unlock memories and progress through challenges.

In Cryptmaster, you’ll be required to type extensively, but let me clarify that it’s not merely a typing challenge. Instead, consider Cryptmaster as a captivating word game. The thrilling dungeon expedition primarily focuses on discovering the ideal word for various quirky situations. Your typing ability serves as the tool to unlock the answers.

In this scenario, you assume the roles of four amnesiac adventurers brought back to life by a cryptmaster. Your objective is to traverse a spooky environment and carry out his orders. The twist is that the words you once knew hold the answers to regaining your memories. The computer keyboard becomes indispensable for this task (though alternative options like a controller or Steam Deck are acceptable). The arrow keys facilitate movement, while the remaining keys allow you to input the crucial words to manage various aspects of the game.

Discovering a hidden chest on the ground, you’ll unlock it by inputting “chest“. Next, to identify the contents, ask the cryptkeeper for a description. Type “touch” and he’ll provide a feel of the item; type “taste” for its taste sensation; type “see” for its appearance. Correct answers from these riddles will reward you with letters that fit under the portraits of the characters. With enough letters, you can use them to decipher phrases guiding each character’s actions in battle, such as “punch“, “kick“, “crab“, or “calm“. Additionally, defeating adversaries will grant you letters from their names, which contribute to the commands.

As a gamer, I can’t stress enough how crucial it is for me to memorize these command words. They’re my weapons against Cryptmaster’s formidable foes. But let me make this clear: Cryptmaster isn’t about typing speed; instead, it’s all about recalling and using the right words at the right time, managing cooldowns, attacks, and shielding efficiently. And that’s not all! This word game also comes with intriguing puzzles, riddles, and minigames that challenge my understanding of words in unique ways within Cryptmaster.

In the seemingly straightforward black-and-white setting of “Cryptmaster,” lies a complexity that defies simplicity. The quirky blend of humor and unease is consistently present, with language playing a pivotal role in reinforcing this unique style. Words are not merely used in “Cryptmaster,” but rather form the very foundation of its existence. They possess a whimsical, eerie, and bizarre power that permeates every aspect of this intriguing world.

With my compact keyboard lacking an arrow pad, there’s been one major issue I’ve encountered while using “Cryptmaster” – it’s my own limitation. I manage fine without an arrow pad for typical tasks, relying heavily on the function key instead. However, I’ve only recently come to understand that this setup is far from ideal when playing games like “Cryptmaster.” Juggling between typing and pressing the function key to mimic arrow keys has proven quite challenging. Regrettably, this predicament is of my own making. Yet, I value “Cryptmaster” enough to have an external four-key directional pad added to my shopping cart now.
