As an avid follower of politics and a devoted supporter of Former President Donald Trump, I was thrilled to witness the historic moment as he officially accepted his Republican Party nomination for the 2024 presidential election at the Milwaukee RNC. The anticipation was palpable, and the numbers reflected the excitement; an average of 25.4 million viewers tuned in, making it a significant event in television history.
At the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee on Thursday, Donald Trump, a previous president, gave a speech as part of the official nomination process. Approximately 25.4 million people watched this event on television.
According to Nielsen’s data, the number of people tuning in for the recent event was around 7% more than the final night viewership during the RNC in 2020. However, this is a 27% decrease compared to the numbers from 2016. The four-day event, which took place from Monday to Thursday, had an average daily audience of approximately 19.07 million viewers – a 2% decrease compared to 2020’s figures.
During the hours of 10 p.m. to 12:05 a.m. Eastern Time, Fox News led in viewership with an average audience of 9.4 million people, surpassing NBC’s 3.6 million viewers, ABC’s 2.7 million, CNN’s 2 million, CBS’s 1.8 million, and MSNBC’s 1.1 million.
Among Trump’s backers, Fox News, known for its conservative perspective, has traditionally drawn large TV audiences during the RNC. Sean Hannity’s “Hannity,” which aired at 9 p.m. Eastern on Fox News, attracted 8.3 million viewers last Thursday.
The RNC events were broadcast on various networks including PBS, Telemundo, Univision, NewsNation, Newsmax, and Scripps News.
In his 93-minute speech, Trump mentioned the assassination attempt at a Pennsylvania rally as a single topic, finding the discussion too emotionally taxing for further elaboration. The event included speeches from Trump’s son Eric Trump, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, wrestling icon Hulk Hogan, UFC CEO Dana White, and ex-Fox News host Tucker Carlson.
As someone who has closely followed the political landscape over the past few years, I was genuinely intrigued when J.D. Vance was announced as Senator and “Hillbilly Elegy” author Donald Trump’s vice presidential pick. Earlier this week, Vance made his first public appearance in this new role during a speech that showcased his unique perspective on life and politics.
The Democratic National Convention will take place from August 19th to 22nd in Chicago. In the prior year, this event attracted an average audience of approximately 21.6 million viewers every day.
