The Acolyte: Leslye Headland warns Osha and Qimir fans

As a devoted fan of “The Acolyte,” I was thrilled to hear about Osha and Qimir’s seemingly romantic ending in episode 8. Manny Jacinto’s revelation that an alternative version had them kissing only fueled my excitement further. However, Leslye Headland‘s recent interview with IndieWire left me feeling a pang of sadness and fear for our beloved couple.

For those shipping Oshmir together, be prepared for disappointment. In an interview with IndieWire, Leslye Headland revealed that their story will not have a happy ending.

In the final episode of “The Acolyte,” series regulars Osha and Qimir (also known as The Stranger) left fans exhilarated. Their bond grew stronger, with scenes showing them prepared to tackle the dark side as a team. During filming, an alternate take was shot where they shared a kiss instead of just holding hands, according to Manny Jacinto, who portrays Qimir. With Jacinto publicly championing their relationship and fans taking notice, there’s plenty of excitement surrounding this potential romantic development.

Supporters of the couple are ecstatic, but showrunner Leslye Headland has given a hint of impending doom for the pair in an interview with IndieWire. Regarding the finale’s surprising twist with Darth Plagueis the Wise, Headland shares her perspective on Qimir and Osha’s ominous fate.

Even though [Osha and The Stranger] are standing there, sort of looking out at the sunset, ready to conquer the world, the tragedy is we know they don’t. We know there can only be two. We know Plagueis is there. We know that these two are doomed in some way. So, to me, it’s a bittersweet tragedy, this foreboding ending.

With Plagueis monitoring their every move, it’s clear that Osha and Qimir’s end is dismal. Plagueis’ presence carries a sinister tone, suggesting he harbors wicked intentions. It’s unlikely that both of them will escape his clutches unscathed. One may meet an end more dreadful than death, while the other is destined to suffer the same fate. As Yoda put it, “Once you begin a dark journey, there’s no turning back; it will forever change and control your destiny.”

Leslye Headland reaches out to fans who closely follow Osha and The Stranger’s bond, acknowledging that others may not be familiar with the “Rule of Two.” For those unfamiliar, the conclusion of episode 8 might appear optimistic.

I know about the Sith lineage and all these other things, whereas I think a different subset of the audience can be like, ‘They’re married!’

Considering Headland’s grim prediction for Oshmir’s story, it might be unrealistic to expect a happy ending. Nevertheless, there’s no reason not to keep rooting for your preferred couple. Fans’ love and encouragement could possibly influence Leslye Headland to reconsider and grant them a fairytale conclusion.

The Acolyte is streaming on Disney+.
