Amanda Holden unexpectedly joined Jeremy Clarkson’s farming choir at their pub gathering this weekend to celebrate receiving the golden buzzer on Britain’s Got Talent.
The Hawkstone Farmer’s Choir, a group of hardworking farmers more familiar with fields than stages, gave a touching performance on Saturday’s Britain’s Got Talent that clearly impressed the judges.
The audience and judges were moved to tears when Amanda, age 55, pressed the Golden Buzzer, instantly sending the choir to the live semi-finals. It was a defining moment for the group.
Jeremy Clarkson brought together this group of 32 farmers and agricultural workers from across the country, and they’ve been working together since 2024.
After receiving the Golden Buzzer, Amanda surprised the performers at their viewing party this weekend and posted a video of the heartwarming moment on her Instagram.
Holding a glass of wine and speaking to the camera outside a pub, she explains that her choir is inside enjoying a drink and watching a TV show – they’re all together hoping to get a ‘golden buzzer’ – and she’s about to go in and surprise them.
She then strolls into the pub and gives them all a big hug as they scream in shock at her arrival.
Amanda watched the celebration on TV, joining in the excitement as the group popped champagne and she spoke with their families about the special occasion.
She shared that she unexpectedly visited @thehawkstonefarmerschoir at their local pub, @thefoxatoddington, to watch them view their golden buzzer performance from @bgt on @itv.
A perfect evening for a celebratory drink! It was wonderful reconnecting with everyone, and I’m already looking forward to the semifinals.
The musical group, whose members range from 27 to 74 years old, beautifully performed Elbow’s inspiring song, ‘One Day Like This’.
Amanda told them on the show that she was deeply moved by their beginning and felt a lot of strength in their performance. She expressed her love for the entire community and admired how hard everyone worked together.
You consistently put in a tremendous amount of effort, and you did an amazing job! I’m really excited to see how you perform in the semi-finals. Well done and congratulations!
Oh my gosh, Stacey Solomon gets it! She totally nailed it when she said you just have to be part of a choir to truly understand how amazing they are. It’s not just singing, it’s… something else, and she completely understands that power! I’m obsessed with her for saying that.
This was a wonderfully freeing experience, and I’m so thankful I was able to be a part of it. Thank you, and congratulations to everyone involved.
Judge Alesha Dixon praised the performance, saying the music felt therapeutic and genuinely moving. She described it as ‘beautiful’.
KSI remarked, ‘That’s incredible! To go from farming to singing is amazing. You really seemed in your element. Congratulations, and I look forward to seeing you again soon.’
The Hawkstone Farmers Choir is moving on to the live semi-finals, where they’ll compete for a chance to win £250,000 and perform at the Royal Variety Performance this year.
Jeremy, 65, shared a heartfelt video on Instagram expressing his pride in the Hawkstone Farmers Choir, writing, ‘So happy for @thehawkstonefarmerschoir.’
He explained to the Daily Mail that he wasn’t shocked Amanda was moved to tears by the choir’s audition. He’d long believed that people from all walks of life, even those doing hard physical labor, can possess beautiful singing voices.
Watching the choir develop from a simple concept into a nationally recognized group performing on television is incredibly rewarding, and I’m eagerly hoping they succeed in the semi-finals.
‘I reckon you’ll hear cheers of support from every other farm in the land too.’
Choir member Katryna Shell shared with the judges and audience at Birmingham’s Hippodrome that Jeremy Clarkson was the reason they formed their group. She explained that he brought them together to sing, and it had been a wonderful experience for everyone involved.
Honestly, it’s amazing to me – Katryna pointed out that everyone involved is connected to farming somehow! It’s not like it’s what we do for work, you know? We’re usually the ones out there actually working the land, getting our hands dirty. It’s a passion, not just a job!
We consistently work long hours, often 16 or 17 a day, and that dedication has created a strong bond between us.
We didn’t set out to be performers. What really brings us together as a family is farming – it’s something we all share and love. While it’s a rewarding life, farming can also be incredibly challenging and isolating. Being able to do it all together has made a huge difference for us.
Following their incredible performance, Katryna, originally from Northumberland, shared: ‘This choir has become more than just a singing group… we’ve really bonded as a community, which is something I hadn’t expected.’
The choir is a really diverse group – people of all ages and backgrounds, from different parts of the country. But what unites us all is our connection to farming, and it creates a unique and special experience unlike anything I’ve known.
Britain’s Got Talent continues next Saturday at 6:45pm on ITV1, ITVX and STV.
