Sonic the Hedgehog 4 confirms return of Jim Carrey as it reveals new cast members

Jim Carrey is returning for the next Sonic the Hedgehog movie! Paramount Pictures has just released a first look at the film, which is scheduled to be released in theaters on March 19, 2027. The movie will also feature both new and familiar characters.

The brief preview featured Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik and unveiled the movie’s rather uninspired title: Sonic the Hedgehog 4.

After the third movie ended with his character’s future uncertain, many viewers questioned whether Jim Carrey would return.

When questioned about whether Jim Carrey’s character survived, writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller jokingly suggested he was definitely killed in the space explosion… but left a small possibility open, saying it ultimately depends on Jim Carrey himself.

They also praised Jim Carrey’s performance as both Ivo and Gerald, stating that very few actors could have handled such a challenging dual role – maybe only one. They emphasized that comedy is a particularly difficult art form.

Jim Carrey isn’t the only star returning for the sequel. Idris Elba will reprise his role as Knuckles the Echidna, and Ben Schwartz will once again voice Sonic.

Keanu Reeves, James Marsden, Colleen O’Shaughnessey, and Tika Sumpter are reprising their roles, and Kristen Bell is joining the cast as Amy Rose, a pink hedgehog who has a big crush on Sonic. She was announced as part of the cast last month.

Nick Offerman, known for his role in Parks and Recreation, and Academy Award winner Ben Kingsley are also joining the cast, according to Variety. Matt Berry and Richard Ayoade, stars of The IT Crowd, will be featured as well.

The movie’s story is still a secret, but with such a talented cast – including newcomer Amy Rose – we’re excited to see Sonic the Hedgehog back on the big screen!

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is released in cinemas on 19 March 2027.
