Take the Black: Praise for the latest episode of House of the Dragon, "Smallfolk"

As a dedicated fan of “House of the Dragon” and host of Take the Black, our bi-weekly chat show, I can’t help but feel elated every Sunday night when a new episode graces our screens. Each installment brings new twists, turns, and intrigue that keep us on the edge of our seats, and “Smallfolk” was no exception.

Each Sunday brings a fresh episode of “House of the Dragon” on HBO, along with a new installment of our bi-weekly discussion series, Take the Black. During Sunday evenings, we delve into the latest developments, explore character depths, and share reactions to this engaging Game of Thrones prequel show. In this episode, titled “Smallfolk,” we dissect an impressive installment that advances the storyline, elicits laughter and tears, and instills fear – all while keeping us hooked. Join us below for a lively conversation on this week’s intriguing events!

In simpler terms, we thoroughly enjoyed the chaotic scene in King’s Landing, which brilliantly tied together various storylines that had been gradually developing throughout the series. We were particularly captivated by the complex portrayals of characters such as Alicent, Rhaenyra, Mysaria, and Larys Strong, whose depth was skillfully expanded. Moreover, it was a delight to witness minor characters like Hugh Hammer and Addam of Hull finally stepping into the limelight. The unexpected turn of events in Rhaenyra’s subplot, where her attempt to mount a dragon for her Kingsguard resulted in a disastrous outcome, added another layer of excitement to an already engaging episode. All in all, there was no shortage of reasons to be impressed!

There are some criticisms we’ve encountered regarding Daemon Targaryen’s prolonged residence in Harrenhal castle. This storyline has become rather monotonous and aggravating for many fans. In addition, some fans of “Fire & Blood” have expressed disappointment over certain elements that were omitted from George R.R. Martin’s book. However, we believe this episode marked a significant improvement for the season as a whole.

As a dedicated listener of podcasts, I can’t help but get excited when I come across a new series that piques my interest. And let me tell you, The Take the Black Podcast is one such discovery that has left a lasting impression on me.
