When is Mike Perry's next fight?

As a longtime fan of combat sports, I have watched Mike Perry’s journey with great interest. From his early days in the UFC, where he showed immense grit and determination in the Octagon, to his recent shift to bare-knuckle boxing, where he has continued to surprise fans with his knockout power and resilience. But after his latest loss to Jake Paul, I can’t help but wonder about Perry’s future in the sport.

The experience of Jake Paul versus Mike Perry taught fans a valuable lesson: striving for greatness doesn’t always yield favorable results. Initially scheduled to fight boxing legend Mike Tyson, Paul instead faced Mike Perry on short notice. For some, this shift in opponents seemed like a blessing as they believed the 58-year-old Tyson was taking unnecessary risks with his 50-6-2 record.

Supporters of local boxer Perry or criticizers of his Youtuber rival cheered him on at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida, packed virtually to capacity by DAZN. After Perry’s sixth-round defeat to Paul, speculation arises about his future in BKFC.

I’ve always admired Perry’s resilience and unyielding spirit in the ring. But during our recent match, despite managing to bounce back from several early knockdowns, his tenacity couldn’t overcome the significant size and power disadvantage that Paul brought to bear against him. Having spent most of my professional boxing career at 170 pounds, I was acutely aware in those initial minutes of the stark contrast when facing an opponent tipping the scales above 200 pounds. It proved a formidable challenge that ultimately proved insurmountable for me.

With Perry now holding a 0-2 record in professional boxing following his defeat by Michael Seals in 2021, it appears that the Queensberry ruleset does not align with the all-or-nothing fighting style of the ex-UFC fighter. Posting five consecutive victories since leaving the UFC and making his debut in the Bare Knuckle Boxing Championship, Perry has surprised many by defeating opponents previously thought to be beyond his reach.

After defeating his previous three rivals, Luke Rockhold and Eddie Alverez among them, within just two rounds, Perry has expressed concerns about securing high-profile opponents within the organization. The process of contract negotiations or the potential harm involved in bare-knuckle fighting may deter many professional boxers and MMA fighters from facing Perry in the ring.

After giving it some thought and taking a break from this intense boxing match, I’m excitedly looking for my next challenge within the realm of combat sports. Assuming no major injuries, I’m planning to make a comeback, possibly in December of 2024 or early 2025.

Who should Mike Perry fight next?

1. Cowboy Cerrone

There are a few clear options that check the “big name” box needed for a return. The first of which is Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone. Competing against Cerrone in 2018, Perry was submitted via armbar relatively early in their bout. But without having to worry about the risk of Cerrone’s ground game within the Bare Knuckle Boxing ruleset, a rematch with the beloved MMA legend is an option that not only gives Perry the opportunity to avenge a loss but also brings the eyes of countless fans that are diehard “Cowboy” supporters.

In 2022, after an impressive 38-fight tenure in the UFC came to an end for Cerrone, he discovered a newfound enthusiasm for training as a result of using TRT (Testosterone Replacement Therapy) following his departure from the UFC’s testing program. This twist offers fans an intriguing prospect: the chance to witness one last spectacular performance from Cerrone, despite his inability to secure a victory in his final seven bouts.

2. Darren Till

As a big fan, I can suggest that Perry has an intriguing opportunity ahead: he could finally put an end to his long-standing feud with Darren Till. For years, they’ve been going back and forth, trying to set up a fight during their tenure in the UFC. Unfortunately, neither of them managed to make it work in the Octagon. Both Perry and Till have struggled with grappling in mixed martial arts, leading them to explore other avenues.

In this face-off between two skilled speakers, the lead-up to a bare-knuckle fight would be ripe with amusing quips and memorable insults, generating buzz among fans. Moreover, winning this battle could significantly boost one contender’s reputation after experiencing setbacks on their paths towards achieving greatness.

Was Mike Perry really fired by Conor McGregor?

Following the announcement that Conor McGregor is one of BKFC’s partial owners, fans have been eagerly anticipating his first significant adjustments to the promotion. With news of Perry’s involvement and co-ownership of the new Dirty Boxing Championship, McGregor didn’t hesitate to express his displeasure with Perry’s underwhelming performance against Paul on Twitter.

McGregor posted on Twitter, “Why don’t you head off and participate in your foul-smelling bare-knuckle boxing event? I wish you luck. You’re out.” However, Perry countered, “We’re co-owners of BKFC. He can’t dismiss me.” Consequently, despite McGregor’s displeasure, Perry is expected to carry on competing under the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship banner until the establishment of the aforementioned “Dirty Boxing Championship” organization.
