Thanks to the storyline of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the Marvel Cinematic Universe now has a great opportunity to show a Spider-Man scene that’s been missing from all previous films. Because Spider-Man was already an established hero when he joined the MCU in Captain America: Civil War, and due to the success of earlier Spider-Man movies, his story has unfolded differently in the MCU compared to other film franchises.
We’ve seen some truly unique Spider-Man movie scenes as a result, but a significant event from the hero’s backstory hasn’t been shown in these films yet. However, considering where the story seems to be heading with Spider-Man: Brand New Day, that might be about to change.
As a big Spider-Man fan, I always found it interesting how the radioactive spider bite continued to affect Peter Parker. “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” really dives into that, showing that even years later, he’s still changing and evolving because of what happened to his DNA. It makes that original moment feel even more impactful, knowing it wasn’t just a one-time thing.
This is a key plot point in the movie: Peter seeks out Bruce Banner to figure out what’s happening to him as he changes. The trailer for Brand New Day also shows Peter struggling to escape a strange, organic cocoon that seems to have formed around him during his transformation.
Considering everything, this might be the only opportunity the Marvel Cinematic Universe has to show the iconic moment Peter Parker is bitten by the spider, and finally reveal the origin story that they’ve intentionally avoided until now.
Now that Peter needs to explain his unique situation to Bruce Banner, the movies have a great chance to show us what happened. They can use a short flashback during their conversation to reveal a key moment from Tom Holland’s Spider-Man’s past, offering important context without retreading familiar ground audiences have already seen in other Marvel films.
A brief flashback in Spider-Man: Brand New Day could reinforce the movie’s theme of fresh starts by showing how much Peter Parker has grown since he first became Spider-Man. This would also make the changes Peter goes through in the film seem more impactful, reminding viewers of the risks involved.
Given that the story heavily focuses on Peter dealing with the consequences of his time as Spider-Man – especially everything that happened in Spider-Man: No Way Home and how it permanently altered his life – it makes sense thematically to revisit those past experiences. It would allow the audience to see those moments through Peter’s eyes, perhaps even with a touch of nostalgia.
As the Spider-Man franchise moves forward with a fresh direction within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Spider-Man: Brand New Day appears to be a key opportunity to showcase a pivotal moment in Peter Parker’s journey – and might be the only film with a natural reason to do so, considering its storyline. However, we’ll likely have to wait until Spider-Man: Brand New Day comes out in July 2026 to see exactly how the filmmakers handle these developments.
