IndyCar: 2024 Toronto qualifying updates, full starting lineup

As a dedicated IndyCar fan with years of experience following the thrilling world of open-wheel racing, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and anticipation as we approach Sunday’s Ontario Honda Dealers Indy Toronto – the fourth race in just 15 days! With the series taking a much-needed four-week break after this event, every lap around the Exhibition Place track in Toronto, Ontario, Canada counts.

The Ontario Honda Dealers Indy in Toronto on Sunday will mark the fourth IndyCar race in just 15 days. This race will be the last one before the Summer Olympics in Paris, meaning there won’t be another event until then. After this, the open-wheel racing series is scheduled for a four-week rest.

I’ve been an avid fan of IndyCar racing for years, and one of my favorite tracks on the circuit is the Toronto streets of Exhibition Place. This temporary, 11-turn course spans 1.786 miles or 2.874 kilometers. For almost four decades, this venue has been a staple in IndyCar racing history. Last year, I was thrilled to witness Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Christian Lundgaard claim the checkered flag at this iconic location.

As a huge fan, I couldn’t contain my excitement when Lundgaard claimed the pole position at the Toronto IndyCar race. With adrenaline pumping through my veins, he went on to secure his very first IndyCar victory. Amazingly, this made it the fourth year in a row that the race was won from the front row! What an incredible feat for Lundgaard and a thrilling moment for all of us fans!

In the past two years, beginning in 2020 up to now in 2021, races haven’t taken place at the track. Consequently, the last victor who started off-podium, specifically from the seventh spot, is Josef Newgarden, whom we celebrated his win in 2017.

In the initial three races during the hybrid era, no driver has overtaken the leader on the track. Nevertheless, no pole position winner has triumphed in an IndyCar race since this technology was introduced. Might this trend be broken at The 6ix?
