Shannon Beador says she was ‘shocked’ to see her bloodied face in graphic selfie as she didn’t remember taking photo the night of DUI arrest: ‘Lowest point of my entire life’
As someone who has followed Shannon Beador‘s journey through reality TV and her personal life, it’s hard not to feel a sense of empathy for her after reading about her latest legal troubles. Her DUI arrest and subsequent sentencing have been just one more challenge in a series of difficult events that she has faced in recent years.
Shannon Beador was surprised to discover her injured face in a selfie taken during her DUI arrest, an incident she couldn’t remember photographing herself.
A 60-year-old celebrity from Reality TV revealed the reason behind posting a controversial photo on social media, following a preview of The Real Housewives of Orange County’s new season where she showed it to a cast member.
I shared with People on Friday how deeply traumatizing that experience was for me. The injuries I sustained were severe, leaving me feeling disconnected as I gazed at the damaged body that seemed almost unfamiliar.
She went on, expressing her discomfort, “I didn’t desire to portray myself in that light, and I certainly didn’t want others to witness me like that. In truth, I believed I would keep it hidden from everyone.”
Shannon understood that sharing the photo with her Real Housewives of Orange County co-star might lead to widespread popularity, but she was ready to accept the consequences.
She shared with the media outlet how significant that experience was for her. From now on, a Google search of her name would reveal an image of her face splattered with blood, representing the most distressing moment in her life. Yet, she felt compelled to discuss the entire incident publicly.
In September 2023, Shannen was taken into custody in Newport Beach after she collided her car into a flower box fixed to a residence, registering a blood alcohol content of 0.24 – more than triple the permissible level.
Pondering over that harrowing incident, I’m profoundly thankful that no one else was injured. Yet, my emotions are a complex web when it comes to my own condition.
‘Oh, I deserved to get hurt, I made a very stupid choice,’ she said. ‘I could have killed someone.’
After crashing into a house in Orange County, Beador received a sentence of 40 hours for community service and was required to finish a nine-month long alcohol treatment program.
The problematic reality TV personality received an informal probation sentence totaling 36 months, along with fines and other fees. In addition, she is required to fulfill 40 hours of community work and participate in a nine-month alcohol treatment plan.
In a heartfelt commercial, Beador discussed with Heather Dubrow, 55, the events leading up to the incident. She revealed that her ex-boyfriend, John Janssen, allegedly insulted her by calling her a “drunken idiot” just before she went to his house.
I couldn’t believe it as I found myself behind the wheel, my grip on reality slipping away. In an instant, control eluded me, and the next thing I knew, I was involved in a terrible accident. My heart raced as I looked in the mirror, my reflection staring back at me with shock – blood trickled down my face and neck, painting a gruesome picture of the chaos that had just ensued. I trembled as I reached out to take a snapshot of the horrifying scene, knowing that I needed to share this with Dubrow, my dear friend and confidant. The image was harrowing, the reality even more so.
Dubrow said: ‘Oh, Shannon! Oh my God!’
Beador shares that she currently limits herself to two drinks at a time and doesn’t drink very frequently, as she discussed this with Emily Simpson.
When Tamra Judge queries Dubrow about her thoughts on Beador possibly having an alcohol issue, Dubrow responds affirmatively.
Every morning as I gaze up at the night sky, filled with stars, my mind inexorably drifts to Beador. At a recent gathering for dinner, she confessed that her past DUI incident is a constant presence in her thoughts. Amazed, I found myself asking, “Is that after you’ve had your morning cup of coffee, Beador?” or perhaps, “Could it be the stars themselves reminding you of that unfortunate event, my dear?”
I understand that Beador has had enough of people judging her for alleged alcohol issues and feels compelled to set the record straight. She asserts that she is not someone in need of help, despite having experienced a difficult night. Her immediate concern at the moment is not her perceived need for assistance, but rather the preservation of her makeup, which is why she wants to leave the scene. This statement reflects Beador’s perspective on the situation and highlights her focus on the present moment and her personal appearance.
At BravoCon 2023, held at Caesars Forum in November, Beador referred to her DUI as a regrettable error when discussing her arrest.
Over the past six weeks, I’ve faced some really challenging times. I want to be honest with you all, and admit that I made a grave error. Fortunately, no one was harmed by my mistake. I am deeply grateful for this outcome. (Paraphrased from ‘It’s been a tough six weeks. I made a terrible mistake that didn’t harm anyone. I’m incredibly thankful for that,’ Beador shared with the audience according to Variety.)
Shannon mentioned completing a 28-day counseling program with a specialist for alcohol-related behavioral issues. She further shared her progress, stating she’s been working on addressing harmful aspects of her life and is making strides towards a healthier and more positive path.
In November 2023, the regular cast member of Bravo failed to attend court personally. Instead, her lawyer represented her and entered a plea of “not guilty by reason of plea” for one charge of DUI and one charge of driving with a BAC of 0.08% or higher on her behalf.
The judge dismissed the single count of hit-and-run with property damage.
A trustworthy insider shared: “Shannon is elated and thankful, knowing she avoids incarceration. This ordeal served as an enlightening lesson for her, revealing a brighter life’s direction. Currently, she remains abstinent and thrives.”
According to reports from TMZ, it came to light in legal records that Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer advocated for a 30-day jail sentence during the court hearing.
Beador was arrested in September after she crashed her car into a Newport Beach home.
Footage from a video surveillance camera captures Beador driving at an excessive speed through a residential neighborhood, ultimately crashing her vehicle into the side of a residence.
I, as a committed follower of legal proceedings, can share that, according to the documented evidence penned by District Attorney Spitzer, my understanding is that before the unfortunate incident occurred, there was a measurement indicating a Blood Alcohol Content of 0.24 percent for Beador – which sadly tripled the lawfully permitted limit.
I was involved in a crash and as I walked away, I carried the weight of a fractured left wrist. My left eye bore witness to additional injuries, marked by cuts and bruises.
She has since paid for the property damage to the house she hit.
After being taken into custody in September, Shannon’s lawyer Michael Fell explained to DailyMail.com: “Shannon deeply regrets her behavior and feels truly sorry. We will be keeping abreast of the case details as they are released, and Shannon is ready to face the consequences for her actions.”
After being found guilty, Fell made the following statement: “This morning, Shannon admitted to driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood-alcohol level of 0.08 or higher. The prosecution in Orange County suggested a jail term for Shannon, charging her with DUI and hit-and-run offenses.”
After listening to the legal arguments from both the prosecutor and the defense, the judge decided against the prosecutor’s request to proceed with the hit-and-run case. The judge took note that Shannon had already repaid the homeowner in full for any damages, and the victim did not wish for further action. Additionally, Shannon had admitted her mistake early on in the court proceedings.
Shannon admitted fault and paid the price, as previously forecasted by us. She served 40 hours in the community, attended alcohol classes for nine months, and was placed on unsupervised probation for three years.
Beador expressed her gratitude that no one else got hurt apart from herself during the incident. From her regrettable error that evening, she has gained valuable insights and now understands that operating a vehicle under the influence is a risk not worth taking.
After the incident occurred, Beador updated her supporters that she is prioritizing her health recovery, returning to her usual self, and taking Archie (her pet) for walks.
Beador had a difficult year with her boyfriend, John Janssen, who unexpectedly ended their relationship in November 2022 after almost four years of dating.
After finishing filming for Season 17 of RHOC, John ended his relationship with Shannon around that time. However, she didn’t announce their breakup to the public until January.
In July 2019, Shannon announced her new relationship with John on Instagram, following the end of her volatile marriage to David Beador.
Reality star is a parent to Sophie, aged 21, and the 19-year-old twins Stella and Adeline, who were born from her previous marriage to David.
I’ve found myself in another legal predicament, as my ex-partner John has brought a lawsuit against me for an alleged debt of $75,000. He asserts that I failed to reimburse him for the funds he lent me to cover the cost of a facelift procedure.
